Hey guys I'm new to this forum and digital storm, although I have done research and found out that this is without a doubt the best computer brand, but I don't quite have the funds to purchase a killer PC yet (I have to wait until I'm out of college and making bank
)
I'm in college and I'm looking for a gaming PC and my budget can be pushed to about $1200, excluding monitor. The ODE Level 0 seemed like a decent computer to replace my HP laptop, which is awful for gaming and pretty much everything. What I'm asking is what kind of performance can I expect with the ODE Level 0? I mostly play games such as Mass Effect 1, 2, (eventually) 3, Oblivion, Portal 1 & 2, KOTOR, and eventually SWTOR and Skyrim, I'd like to play Civ, Crisis 1 & 2, Starcraft, and Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Also I do minor CAD and Inventor designing for school. On my HP laptop I have to pretty much drop every setting to zero except on KOTOR, I have a 1st gen i5 and some mobile radeon that sucks, but it can handle that. I'm gaming on a 19" (1366 x 768, 60hz) TV. As you can probably tell I'm more into playing games than the actual quality, I grew up on playing the N64 and still do, I'd probably get a few emulators on this. But anyways I wouldn't mind playing on medium settings on a few games, but i'm sure I wouldnt have to on many of the games I play. thanks for any help, I know i wrote a mouthful lol.... Trevor Also has anybody transported a PC to college? What would u recommend for the travel we (my PC and I lol) would make about 3 times a year (beginning of school, winter break, and summer break) Edited by HAL - 16 Jul 2011 at 2:20pm |

HAL, I just bought the ODE level 0 over the 4th and will have it delivered, if the Fedex Gods so deem it, next week.
Everything I've read tells me the i5-2500k with GTx 560 will play most anything at 1680 res with real good frames and 1920 res. with things turned down like aa, etc. The ODE #1 with i7-2600k and GTX 570 will be better in the long run, like 2-3 years from now, but it looks like your in the boat as me, funds are tight and this rig will blow away what I have now. I'd have sold my left !@#$ to get the ODE #3 but who'd have bought it. Plus with the ODE #0 in a year or two you can always upgrade your gpu to 570 or 580, the prices by then should be alot lower. DS is the place to go. Others offer better prices, which can be tempting when every dollar counts, but a product is only as good as the customer service. I did add $199 to up the warranty to 5year labor/3 year parts to get parts quicker and with less hassle should the need arise.

@1366 x 768 with a 560 you should have great gaming experience, however for some games like metro you may have to turn down settings a lot, you would be looking at around 25 to 30 fps in games like metro with high settings and no aa, in games like bf2 you would be getting like 60fps, but bf3 is gonna lot more demanding, skyrim I hear are gonna be demanding also.

Thanks DST4ME! But if I did end up finding the extra $300 for the level 1, would I see much improvement with a 570? An improvement worth $300?
And any comments on transporting a gaming PC to college? |

well in lvl 1 you are getting the 2600k, in some games at a lower res it does make a difference and you are getting a 570, so I would say taking future performance into account, ode 1 is well worth it.
as far as transporting goes, make sure its secure, you don't want the pc ratting/shaking/etc with the gpus/ram/etc on the mobo. |
