I don't know if I should get an ODE Lvl 1 or custom build, help please!! Should I wait for Nvidia's new GPU because I want my computer and GPU to last 2 years minimum if possible, I could upgrade as needed but I want that option available, will the ODE give me that? Will I need a 750hx power supply to use a "gtx 670"?

I don't think I'll need SLI because I wont play many FPS and I dont care much for graphics, Ocarina of Time still looks great to me lol and I dont have a monitor yet but more of that later :)

Budget:$2000 (all inclusive w/ monitor, shipping, keyboard, etc.)

Expectations:
Run Skyrim w/ mods at Ultra 1080, unless someone talks me out of Dell Ultra Sharp 21" (or 23")

Civ V, Zeus Master of Olympus, Oblivion, Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 lol Portal I & II (III?), not many FPS games, if I do I could live with medium-low settings

Special Needs:
Portability gets a plus because next year I will be taking it to college. Any tips on transportation? Anyone with experience taking a computer to school?

I've been looking at DS and recommending it to my friends for months but I'm getting ancy for my own!

Thanks,
Trevor

I will talk you out of 21", if you are going ips go u23, no lower, as the specs drop.

you better check and see if skyrim will use sli correctly and if so then will it need it to max out, I'm thinking not but I'm not sure, I dont play it.

waiting is up to you really, we are not sure how big of a difference it will be, it will probably drop the prices on current gpus, tho, we also are not sure what you need to run a "670". you can always pay $50 plus the cost difference of 750hx and have them switch the psu in ode 1 to the 750hx.

Thanks DST4ME, I've been a fan of your rig for some time!

But Ok thanks I was unsure of the difference between and which was better.

For Skyrim I'm certain a single 570 will exceed my expectations, comming from an xbox 360 lol but do I have the budget to get a system that I could upgrade to sli? I need shipping, monitor and everything to be around $2000, I could go to $2100 possibly.

I would be fine with a 2500k because I'm used to waiting for windows. From my understanding that is all hyperthreading helps, right?

And I may end up waiting, but would the ODE's get the new kepler series once they are out? I've heard the performance increase will only be 45% or so and that is not substantial from my understanding.

Thanks for all the help! I really want to pc game

I have a 570 in my computer and play skyrim on ultra with everything maxed out and it runs amazing so you need not worry.

@sev what res you gaming it, its all about res.

@HAL, we hear a lot of stuff before things get released but till you get the part you won't know for sure, 45% gain is a good amount, I'm not sure if ode will get updated or what will happen to it.

hyperthreading is not waiting for windows, difference between 4 threads of 2500k and 8 threads of 2600k is like having a task at hand, one side has 4 workers to get the task done, the other side has 8 workers to get tasks done, these tasks can be windows/apps/games, whatever that supports ht wil benefit and all things are moving toward multi core/thread support, so as the years go on, the ht of 2600k will come in use more and more.

to do only sli 570 (not 580 sli capable, if future gpus have such needs you wont' meet it): Ticket Number: 620272 its little above budget.

Ok thanks for all the help guys! I'll probably go with the ODE lvl 1 but I'm waiting to get paid on a loan...long story...once I do I will pull the trigger!

And @sev, what res? And if you don't mind, the entire specs? :)

Take a look at this Ticket 620243, it's a custom build I am just about to pull the trigger on. You have to add custom builds to your cart to see the full discounts, with ground shipping that build is less then the $1700 it's showing there which would leave you money for your monitor. With all the discounts it is only $86 more then an ODE 1.

I was looking really hard at an ODE 1 but was upset that I could not upgrade to SLI later with out both a new MOBO and a new PSU. The custom build I linked does have an i5 instead of an i7 but it has a better MOBO and PSU that can handle x2 SLI, a slightly better HDD and better CPU cooling.

The case it's self also has a lot more cooling options and can use a total of 11 fans. The ODE does have the built in fan controller for up to 4 fans but the coolermaster case on the custom build lets you use a lot more fans. Only downside to the case is no clear side panel.

I would not recommend that build to you or the OP jmaster299, check out your own thread for the reasons why not.

some of the info you have is not correct, yes the psu is better but its not a great psu, the vortex is not better then the a70.
