ODE lvl 4 for gaming

Budget:
~2800

Expectations:
gaming/work computer that will suffice for the next several years

Usage:
Gaming (sometimes 3D - 1920x1080)| Photo/Video editing

Hey guys,

My wife gave me a $2800 budget to build a new computer to replace my 6 year old tower. She is a photographer and I like to play games from time to time. I've been a stalker on this site for a couple of years now, waiting for the time that my current computer finally gave up the ghost and I had an excuse to get a boutique replacement. I was looking at the ODE 4 but noticed that the gpu was a gtx 590 and remember there being a few issues with that card when it released. I haven't looked into it much recently so maybe those issues have flushed themselves out with a firmware upgrade, but would it be better to SLI a couple 580s instead? Also, that being said, is it possible to change the configuration of an ODE build or would I need to go through and customize one in the blackops section?

Everyone on this sit seems to recommend the ODE Level 3 over the Level 4. They say it has similar or even better performance for less money, it is what I went with though I can't tell you how I like it as I haven't received it yet. Anyway check with DST4ME, he can help recommend an even better computer for $2800.

I would reccomend an ODE 3, but wait for DST4ME to come over and logic over everything, but for gaming at the 1920x1200 or around that res, SLI 570 is great.

Single cards with dual gpus inside are not a great idea, sli 570 beats a 590 and does better in temps and etc.

You guys all respond fast! Thanks for the info and for the build DST4ME! A quick question I now have is, how does the 580 compare to SLI 570s? Would it be worth it to go with a 580 for now and upgrade to SLI 580s in a year or two?

If 580 was worth it, you would see it in my build instead of the 570.

580 and 570 are similar in performance, where it counts they are maybe 2 to 4 fps apart, so sli 570 would eat a single 580 for snack, and sli 570 and sli 580 are very similar.

also you want to change gpus in 2 years, if you go sli in 2 - 3 years it would be like somebody going sli 285 from single 285 now, which is completely pointless.

I meant no disrespect with the question, just genuine curiosity. Thank you for the analogy with the 285...that made things much more clear. My wife just upped my budget to $3000, not sure why but not gonna question it either. What changes would you make to your previous build if you had another $200 to play with? Thank you again for all of your help!!!

Nothing, there is nothing to change in my build that would bring you noticeable performance.

Don't forget that the haf x fits another 200mm fan on top, for some reason CM no longer offers the non led ones, so either grab a red led one and add it yourself or ask DS to put one on top for you, so that you endup with the best airflow case can do, here is the fan you want, you need to specifically ask for this fan to be added:

200mm red led fan

put that $200 toward keyborad or other things you may need, you would be wasting it if you add anything to my config.

FYI. All DS Trucks(Post PC term by Steve Jobs) come with 1 yr parts and three year support. The $200 will get you 3yr parts and 5 yr service.

DST4ME, you are a wizard! thanks for your help and expertise and you're wicked fast response time... Quick question, should I order over the phone so that I can request that case fan you linked to or is there a way to forward that link during the online ordering process?

@jacko: that's a good idea...I may go that route or just give the cash back to the Mrs.... will have to see about that when payday hits...
