Ok so this will be my first purchase from DS and well my first gaming pc and first pc in like 8 or so years. I really like the ODE level 3 as it seems reasonable but was wondering if a custom rig would be better?
Budget: For my budget i would like it to be 2k or under (monitor included in price) Expectations: I'm not so familiar with parts and stuff but still learning so i'd like the pc to last for a few years like 5 or 6 till i have to upgrade. I would also like the system to be able to handle the games i play (MMO's and RPG's) such as rift, guild wars (Soon guild wars 2), dragon age 1 and 2 and such. Usage: The main usage for this pc would be for gaming. I mostly play RPG's and MMO's so i would like to play on high or even better, max, if possible. I'm tired of playing on 8-12 fps :( I can't even do raids or play in large groups with my old pc. Special Needs: No real special needs, just want a good pc that can handle games at high settings with good fps that will last a while Saved Ticket #: [Please Type Here] Specifications: [Please Type Here] |

Hi Surdect.....Welcome to the forums..
For $250 cheaper than the ODE 3 I would recommend the ODE lvl2. The 7870 is only a few fps slower than the expensive gtx580. Here's a link comparing the two..... http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=517 The power consumpion and heat output of the newer 7870 is low. For your gaming, and I'm assuming a 23" monitor or less, you'll see no difference between the two ODE's.. The ODE 2 has a very reliable air cooler vs the ODE 3 closed loop hydro cooler. The ODE 3 does have a higher overclock, stage 2 vs stage 1 for ODE 2 but the difference certainly isn't worth $250. That $$$ would buy a real nice 23" Dell UltraSharp IPS monitor. Hope this helps and good luck Edited by bprat22 - 29 Apr 2012 at 4:10am |

Thanks a lot for the input, and say if i wanted to upgrade parts in the ODE lvl 2 in the next 2 years or so, would i only need to upgrade the gpu and power supply? And yea, using the extra money for a monitor would be great. |

With each generation video card having a lower power requirement, you'd probably only have to add a new video card down the road. If you did want to upgrade psu then it is easy enough. The ODE 600T case has lots of room to work and manage cables.
