Budget:
$3500 This will be my 2nd DS build, but the 1st build is 10 yrs old and I have not looked at getting a new PC until recently. I'm not up to speed on processors and really do not know how far along AMD has come vs Intel. Motherboards is the other component I'm not up to speed with either ASUS vs MSI. I've configured 2 builds, please provide feedback as it will be the deciding factor on which to get obviously. 90% gaming 10% other. The AMD build is just what I would recommend for every part in every slot at this price point. The Intel rig is all PCIe Generation 3 vs AMD's PCIE GEN 4 parts, so it doesn't get my vote. The Firecuda, for example, would be gimped because it's a PCIe 4 part.
You don't say why you want the way-over-priced RTX 3080. An old-time gamer like yourself, (I go back before Civ 1!), it's hard for me to believe you crave 4k gaming, or must have everything maxed out at all times at 1440p. Whatever you are using now will be totally eclipsed by a more affordable selection. You have chosen very wisely everywhere else, don't go overkill at the GPU. For 1080p, a 3060 Ti will blow everything away, and a 3070 will well exceed 100 fps at 1440p on all but the poorest coded games. Look at a few benchmarks and reviews. Keep in mind the next round of GPUs is within about a year and a half. And/or prices will come down. MSRP on a 3080 is $799, a 3070 is $599. Choose wisely, all your other parts have been. |

Thanks Cretae for responding. I took your advise and went with 1st build with the AMD processor and scaled back on the GPU to the 3070. Order is placed and the anticipation builds.
Again thank you for the help it was much appreciated. |

A pleasure to be able to help. I'm very confident you will be amazed at the instantaneous response you'll get from your new rig! The GPU will more Than satisfy, I think, and there's always an upgrade available just around the next corner.

If would personally try to upgrade to 32GBs of memory if possible. Especially, if you plan on keeping this build for an extended period of time.

I don't disagree with going with 32 GB of RAM for long term. Fortunately, upgrading RAM is extremely easy. After the OP breaks in his system, he will get a feel whether 16 GB RAM is enough. Getting two more sticks of the same kit is relatively cheap. If he wants to go with more high performance, lower latency RAM, he has the option of shopping around for the best priced kit. |

Congratulations on your placing the AMD order. You will be very pleased with the performance. AS to RAM, I agree with GrandesBollas, it is the easiest hardware in there to upgrade/change so no worries. Right now 16GB is plenty but just so you know 32GB is the "recommended" ideal for Flight Sim so....... games are starting to reach that milestone. Enjoy. I know its early but we do like images of the systems as they arrive home. We'll remind you as the time gets near so you prepare.
