First off, i know I made a mistake. I was excited and tried to do things quickly and well, it did not end up good.
Yesterday I got my awesome Lynx Level 4. Everything works perfectly. It has a SSD and a hard drive. I wanted to take my files off my old computer and put them on the new one, but I do not have an external hard drive. I read (maybe bad information) that I could remove the old hard drive, put it in the new computer and use it like another hard drive (yes, it was the only hard drive on the old computer and also has windows 10 installed on it). So it fit in the extra hard drive slot and I used the included cord to hook it to the motherboard and connected the power cord also. It took me to the BIOS and it was not listed. I booted and in device manger and disk manger it shows up but as "unknown device". I switched the cables between the old and new drives and it still reads the new, but not the old. I decided to just put it back in the old computer and either buy an external drive to transfer the information or just do it by a 64gb usb card. But the old computer won't even boot now. I have no idea what to do. No sites I've visited have come close to helping me.I tried the "update drivers" in device manager, but nothing happened. Some sites suggest getting an external "case" to make the internal drive into an external one, but if it doesn't work internally I don't understand how it would work externally. Another thing is that if I leave the old drive in the new computer it makes me go to the BIOS every time i restart the computer. The old hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda (the new one is as well). Old computer is 8 years old. Any ideas what to do? |

Drives can be finicky as heck when it comes to being recognized in a new home. It's not that easy to damage one doing what you've tried.
Since there are so many ways this could be happening, I advise you start ASAP using your lifetime tech support from DS. It's more than likely they have resolved issues like this one many times in the past. They will arrange to get you on the phone so an experienced tech can help diagnose and walk you through possible fixes. At the very least they will be able to figure out exactly where you stand. Best of good fortune, and let us know how it goes for you. |
