Is the on board sound on the 680i SLI (A1 revision), direct x combatible? Will it work with the latest games? I dont care that much about super sound quality, but I always assumed you had to have a soundcard to play the latest games. But reading some of the other posts, it seems that on board sound has come a long way. Is anyone with that board using onboard sound with your games? Is it direct x combativle? Im using Vista, if that matters...

Using onboard sound won't stop you from using graphics from any DX series including DX-10.
You can play the latest games without a soundcard.
Using a sound card simply gives you a better audio experience and helps free some resources from the CPU, enhancing framerate in some cases.

Thanks for the reply. I know it sounded like a stupid question, but I was reading the back of Bioshock. The minimum system requirments read:
" ... sound card: 100% direct X 9.0c commmmpatible sound card ..." That's what got me thinking about lack of a sound card... |
