I'm having a problem with the onboard sound of my EVGA X58 SLI LE. When I set up 5.1 sound, the front speakers do not seem to work. I had the same problem last month before I sent a newly purchased computer back to IBP (for overheating issues). I tried to research this and it appears to be somehow caused by the realtek drivers. I went to the realtek website yesterday and installed the latest drivers. I was hoping someone might have discovered a work around that might help. If nothing works I can always buy a sound card.
I did have 1 idea that I'm going to try. I'm going to buy a toslink cable and see if the digital 5.1 works. I have one probably dumb question. Will the toslink optical cable take the place of the 3 analog cables or is it used in addition to them?
Appreciate any help and thx again for an awesome computer. You guys rock.

It may be a driver glitch... that's weird. Have you tried calling us to see if our techs found a fix for this?
Using a TOSLINK optical cable will require no other cables. It handles the entire 5.1 signal.
Thanks for the praise!
Warm Regards,
Alex

I haven't called tech support yet, but will give then a call tomorrow after work if I'm still having the problem. I want to double check all the connections first to avoid wasting their time.

I'm glad I rechecked everything. The front speaker plug was installed in the side speaker jack. The side jack and front speaker jack appeared to be the same color so I had a 50/50 chance to mess up. I should have read the manual first but thought it wasnt necessary since the cables and jacks are color coded.
