question, i have an old Audigy 4 to put into my rig that just arrived, but i was wondering if the Realtek ALC889 codec would be the better choice to use on the mainboard. Supposedly using onboard sound uses more cpu affecting framerates in game, should i put the Audigy 4 in and get vista drivers for it? Thanks, btw overclock is at 3.5. so i figured onboard wouldnt decrease framerates that much, or should i just go out and buy an X-fi fatality? Thanks!

take it from me, get an x-fi fatality card..it is an outstanding piece of hardware and i've used first hand (the champion edition anyways). the sound is phenomenal, and yes the usage of a fatality card will increase your framerates (especially if the game was designed to used the onboard ram). I personally don't own one yet but i've used extensively with my friend's rig.

as for the vista driver issue, fatality cards don't have any as far as i'm concerned. there's no guarantee that audigy card will work successfully. get the x-fi fatality series, you won't regret it.

note: if you have any high quality external speakers (or headphones) the sound quality is bliss...hope that helps :)

These rigs are too powerful to be bothered by onboard sound, you will not notice any performance difference with in games with a sound card or an onboard one.
