I was running 3DMark when I noticed today that GPU1 ( or 2 depending on if your looking at the EVGA or the Nvidia Monitor) is running almost 2x hotter than the other.
Running Canyon flight at factory clock speeds I have 47 C on one GPU and the other is at 80 C. and the video will glitch and freeze. I am using dual loop LC and the radiator temps are always close to 31c during the test. That would suggest that the heat transfer from the GPU to the coolant is poor.
I don't want to fry a card. Any ideas?
Could the GPU with the hotter temps loose contact with the heat sink?

...Something sounds off here...80C isn't THAT bad for a GPU these days...
While it does sound like bad contact, 80C shouldn't be enough to fry a 280. The card itself may simply be a defect.

I did some more looking into it. What had happened is the Thermal Compound although plenty of it somehow seperated from the GPU a bit. I cleaned everything off of the coldplate and board. Put it all back together and now the 2 temps on the GPU's are close.
The only issue I see If it even has to do anything with this is, when I run 3D mark Vantage the Jane Nash Video looks like a mass of lines and streaks in many of the frames that have to do with the water scenes?

that means your OC on your cards is to high . turn it down a bit , and run it again

I have the GPU's set to factory defaults. I visited the futremark website and found that installing driver 180.42 clears up the issue and it not only cleared it up but also doubled my FPS. I found that on my system when the GPU's are overclocked the display freezes then I get the BSOD
Thank you all. This forum is great!

It's been a little while since I followed up on this post. I finally decided to call DS because the 2nd GPU was now running at 90c and the top one at 48c. I Spoke to Eric? We decided to try another card. I got the card yesterday and installed my koolance block to it. I also figured since I have to drain the sytem I would try out the diomond composite HS compound.
So I fired the system up and behold the lower GPU was actually running cooler than the top one by 2c. Now using any Futermark benchmark I run the GPU's never go above 50c and if I overclock the boards it will still stay the same.
Thank you DS for getting the card out to me.
