Onkel Ken's Best Mandelbrot Fractal Deep Zoom

Well fellow Digital Storm Forum friends I believe I have created a MANDELBROT FRACTAL DEEP ZOOM that I can be proud of to share with you. I am using a resolution of 1920 X 1200 and an iteration rate of 20,000,000 times per each pixel for each frame to create this Fractal Zoom little movie. It takes hours to create these things even with powerful systems. Then additional hours for YouTube to figure out what you are doing and approve and process it. The Mandelbrot set is probably the most famous of all fractals. Its distinctive spiny pear shape is what many people think of when they think of fractals. It is an extremely complex and beautiful fractal, yet it is one of the simplest to calculate. Its formula, expressed in complex numbers, is simply "Z = Z * Z + C".

Yet this simple formula, applied iteratively to every pixel in the image, produces an image so complex and detailed that the length of its boundary is infinite. An image so complex that within just a few minutes of starting to zoom in on its tendrils, explorers almost invariably find themselves seeing a part of the set which no person has ever seen before.

Fractal Extreme allows the ability to do amazing deep dives on multiple fractal types. I hope you enjoy this visual journey into the depths of the Mandelbrot. The computer I used was my Digital Storm Computer which is configured as shown: Velox X/AMD 5900X/MSI X570 Pro Carbon MB/32GB DDDR 3200 DSPS/850W PS/500GB Samsung 980 Pro/1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus/Sound Blaster AE-7/EVGA FTW3 Ultra RTX 3080 10GB/Liquid CPU cooler dual fan.

I have decided to used the highest level iteration/resolution possible for making my fractal zoom movies. I had used 20,000,000 iterations but now went to the max with 500,000,000 iterations per pixel. Each of the 1920x1200 pixels are examined 500 million times to determine if it is in the Mandelbrot set, if not when it escapes. The escape iteration point is what determines the various colors. This is calculated over & over for each of the 300 or so frames of the little movies. I will admit they take a while to create, render, & get processed by YouTube for publication.

They are fun to make and I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did when I flew down into the depths of the Mandelbrot. :-) It is on my "Ken Wigger" YouTube channel.

Thanks for watching guys. I do like making these Mandelbrot Fractal Zooms. They can be mesmerizing. :-)

After getting my new 4K monitor I think I can present my best Fractal Deep Zoom so far and it is in 4K. I hope you enjoy it. It took several hours to create using an iteration factor of 500,000,000 against each of the 4K pixels to assess their membership in the Mnadelbrot set or when it escapes I do this for each of teh 200 or so movie frames. I paint it black if is a set member and color it based upon when it escapes if not a member of the set.

I should have bought it when I got the new system last Christmas. I also noticed that creating a video at 4K makes it look better even for people watching in lower resolutions.

These fractals have always been interesting to me since so much of Nature and our bodies use Fractals to allow complex structures to be developed with minimal programmed genetic data. I examine each pixel in each of the 100 or so movie frames and iterate it up to 500 million times against the Mandelbrot formula. If it is a member of the set I paint it black and if it is not I color the pixel based upon when it escapes during iteration. I can do magnification equivalent to the sub atomic level out to the size of the universe. I have been making fractals for over 40 years. 🙂
