Am I the only Digital Storm Bolt 3 owner not that happy with the computer? Bought a Bolt 3 8700K with 1080 Ti custom liquid cooled GPU/CPU. It came with the following problems. Reservoir tank/pump housing cracked. Had to send it back to get it replaced. Overclock service, overclocked to 4800MHz blue screen whenever playing games. Tech Support had me reset the bios to default which doesn't turbo boost past 4300MHz. And also clocks the RAM down to 2666MHz. 140mm fans on top blowing INTO the case and too loud. Replaced the Upgraded Corsair fans with another brand, more static pressure, more silent and blowing out of the case on top. Added 2 additional super silent 80mm fans to the bottom of the case. Can't overclock this computer past 4800 without overheating the CPU. Can't run SVX Instructions past 4300 without overheating the CPU. Under-volting helps somewhat. It's like there is no thermal paste on the CPU at all. It was not an option during the build so I assumed something was put on but now I'm guessing Nothing was put on. Should have just bought a fan cooled, off the shelf system for a lot less cuz that's all it is with the additional maintenance of an open loop custom water cooling. |

What are your temps? Your CPU throttling sounds like you may be unlucky in the silicon lottery. The 8700ks (like the 7700ks) have some thermal issues that can't be solved unless you delid the CPU(has nothing to do with the thermal paste between the heat spreader and cooler. Also thermals will be higher in a SFF case. That sucks that you resevoir cracked. I don't know much about the Swifttech setup except that it is inbetween and AIO and a full custom loop.
So basically if you don't mind voiding your CPU warranty you can always delid the chip and apply liquid metal. |
