Topic: Operating system question. Posted: 16 Feb 2009 at 6:09pm |
I have been having lots of trouble trying to figure out which would be better Windows vista 64 bit or Windows XP. I was reading up on the threads about them did not seem to help. Two of my friend's have Vista and they say its not worth it and has lots of problems with compatibility issue's with exe's etc . Also if I get a dual boot windows xp and vista 64 bit would that fix the compatibility issues? Would some one be kind enough to shed some light on this. I am also worried that there will be problems with vista Thanks

What problems? most things work with vista 64bit.
and its very well worth it cause you can't use more then 4Gb of ram total with 32bit, this includes your ram sticks and ram from your GPU. |

Yes, 32bit will only recognize 4GB. You might as well throw the other 2GB in the garbage if you buy 32bit.

Right then I was just talking to my friend who has vista ultimate and says that there is more compatibility problems with newer games and also with other things. Is this true? This is really what I am worried about.

You sure your friend has vista? most people here have vista 64 and playing games just fine, the only issues we have seen have been with drivers and or the GPU itself, which both have to do with Nvidia and nothing to do with vista.
all of these run in vista Far Cry 2 Dead Space Fallout 3 Call of Duty 5: World at War Crysis WARHEAD Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway Left 4 Dead FEAR I don't think your friends know their way around vista Edited by DST4ME - 16 Feb 2009 at 6:46pm |

While we're on the subject of OS, is it possible for you to put Windows as the base OS and also add Linux?

with vmwareor apps like it, you can do that.
with vmware you can have multiple OS running off of a base OS. for example you have vista as your main OS then you install vmware on it and then the new OSes get installed in vmware, then from vmware you can run linux, windows 7, what ever you like. for example here is linux as the base os and xp as the guest os running in vmware Edited by DST4ME - 21 Feb 2009 at 4:43pm |
