Wow. That's quite a computer. Just a couple of questions. Why did you go with Vista Home Basic as opposed to Premium? Also, why did you go with McAfee instead of installing Avast or another program?

I dunno, I never had a problem with McAfee and have always used them. Even on my older computer.
Whats the huge difference with basic & premium.?

I would probably upgrade to Home Premium, if only even for Aero Interface.

thanks, Kelly suggested the sound-card on there. I agree with what he recommended. For 64MB dedicated RAM how could one go wrong with it. I took off the liquid cooling that I had on there before. I also replaced the videocards, they were orginially 8800 GTS 640MB, instead had them put in the 8800GTX 768MB. I also got extra fans on there which are not listed. Also the 500GB hard drive wasn't in my older list but had them put that in as well.

Very nice setup Bigdog! Gonna be a powerhouse! I agree with thecomplex about McAffe though. Its filled with bloatware and theres much better security software, both firewall and anti-virus out there that actually detects more security risks, has smaller footprints, and runs way less processes on your computer. There are plenty to choose from and picking one is matter of opinion-but a few to look at would be Avast, NOD32, Comodo Firewall, and the list goes on.
If McAffe works for you thats great-just letting you know theres much better alternatives froma variety of companies. Again, great setup you have there man-shes a beast! |

Aye, I discussed it with one of the people at DSO, said the same thing so had them take that off. Why would they do that with an anti-virus software though? kinda lame. Thanks for helping out and improving my "rig" guy's(forum members).. I appreciate it. from reading these forums it has helped me understand more things about a computer and software then anything else.

They used to be good-I dont know for fact, but I think some companies ride on their name after they have a great reputation and expect people to think they have the best-even if they start putting out lackadaisical products. Perhaps their was a deadline that had to be met that caused them to cut corners. There are a slew of reasons why companies but out so-so products. Im not saying McAfee is bad, just that their are better options out there that will not only protect your system from more threats, but will do it using less resources. Either way-you're protected!

I have been doing a lot of research to replace my existing machine, and I have been blown away by the attention and the care factor I'm getting from DS. Nowadays it's almost a miracle..! So I made my decision to get the following, just need to put the finances together..! |

I agree agadou. Finding good tech support and customer service seems to be a rarity these days. I haven't even recieved my computer yet but have already been contacted by DS 3 times keeping me up to date. From what I've read and heard that quality stays the same after the sale as well. I look at it like a blessing in disguise that my last order didn't work out with Dell. First time I purchased from a custom boutique type shop-but the way its going I certainly doubt it will be the last.
One thing I would like to see in the future is DS selling computer parts as well. Would be convenient to set up an account and buy all my stuff here. Maybe get into the lending business and have a Digital Storm credit card-or just work out a partnership with a bank. Then maybe you guys could have some promotions like a step up program or other sort of incentives. And welcome to the forums agadou! Thats a nice setup you put together. |

hehe if you think my set-up is powerful, wait till you see my bike. I should get a picture of it. So far Triumphs are in the lead for fast bikes, besides rockets (there light). Triumph 2300cc 140 cubic" engine. talk about power.
touring bikes usually have around 1800cc BUT there bikes are heavey, were talking around a good 800lbs bike or even 850lbs.
My bike is a 1634cc 100" cubic engine BUT it weighs only 600lbs 650 at the most. the thing is a pitbull. got a stage 1 exhaust kit, I would of went with "slash-pipes" but there to loud and you can get fined in Minnesota with extremely loud pipes hehe.

I have it, I got it in july. Very nice bike, after riding a Victory I never looked back at any other bike. there not all that expensive compared to bikes such as "Harley-Davidson" which you end up paying $18,000 for there name pretty much. Although I do like Harley's but you have to constantly fix them up. mine was around 14k which is pretty cheap. although Vulcans are really nice as well. Yamahas are really cool as they have a HUGE and i mean HUGE VARIETY of custom parts, more then any other bike company.
I'll try to get a pic up tomorrow, if not I will get one up thursday for sure.
scratch the 14K, I actually got it for $12,500 with 1500 bucks in free accessories. Edited by Bigdog - 09 Oct 2007 at 11:56pm |

I never owned a bike. I grew up in Jersey and there wasn't really anywhere near me that would be fun to let er go. I would imagine Minn. is great for riding. I just moved to PA and am seriously considering buying a bike. Theres so may open roads here, then theres tons of scenic windy roads. Would definitely be interested in checking out a pic. Sounds like a beast! Off to bed-12am here and ready to hit the hay! Talk to you later. :)

If you decide to get a bike, I HIGHLY suggest you do a basic training course. the basic training course takes 3 days, the first day your in a classroom watching movies and doing quizes. the 2nd and 3rd day your out in a parking lot on a little 150cc bike(they are fun to ride) for about 6 hours doing nothing but practicing with the coaches. At the end of the 3rd day they test you right there and if you pass you get your licsense(sp?, crap forgot how to spell it sdfsjk). it costs about $160.00 here in minnesota, might be different where you live.
it's better to do that then to practice on your own and go to the DMV for a few reasons.
1.) at the training course you get a smaller bike, which in turn makes it easyer to pass the test. (take note if you drop the bike during the test you will fail.)
2.)If you do drop your bike, it isn't your bike your dropping :)
3.) your experience riding will sky rocket as you will know basic manuvers and techniques.
then they have an advance course, if you want to take it you should ride for a year then take it. Edited by Bigdog - 10 Oct 2007 at 12:21am |

I appreciate the tips Bigdog! I like #2-makes alot of sense!
You know, I was just thinking-in the news over the last 2 weeks, there have been 6 fatalities in my county! Theres a ton of windy roads-some are very narrow and drop off steep cliffs. The only thing I can think of is they are going way too fast and cant handle the turns. I've only been living here for about a month now but was shocked when I saw how many people were wiping out. Every single report on the news indicated these people were 16-20 years old, so im guessing lack of experience may have played its part. A friend of mine in Jersey had a rice rocket and let me fly down his street-it was awesome! That was as far as he let me go though lol. Thanks again for those tips though, I'll keep em in mind and try not to drop the bike! |

Hello Donkeypunch, Thanks for the good words. Like everyone else I'm a little nervous to invest over $4,000 in a machine and I want to make sure I'm making the right decision.

I don't blame you agadou, its a good chunk of change! I was put in a weird predicament in that my old computer melted so I needed another asap. I originally went to go with the company I always have and sort of rushed instead of reading reviews. Anyhow, the order didn't go through(thank God) so I began the dreadful process of reviewing TONS of computer builders. I already knew I wasn't going with some of the big names that tack on a $1000+ price tag just for the name. Then after sorting through alot of negative reviews I ruled out some companies that sold computers for dirt cheap. I decided to go with a happy medium of a decent price and received excellent reviews. So far so good and im happy with my decision.
I think if you hang around here for awhile you will see the dedication and helpfulness that Digital Storm provides. It really is on a personal level and you get the feeling its a company that really wants their customers to be happy, and to do whatever it takes to make it happen. My RCA extension cables just arrived so I'm gonna get going to hook my speakers up. Have a good one and i'll talk to ya later man. |

I think no matter the budget, each person looking for their dream rig, gets nervous about handing over that money to an unfamiliar company. Whether that be $800 or $10,000 people tend to gravitate towards the best they can afford, so it's always "alot of money" to the person looking to buy.
One of the things I have noted with DSO is the lengths they go to to allow a potential cutomer to become familiar before the purchase. This forum for example, allows people to get a real feel for the people they will be involved with. Negative experiences are not simply locked, or deleted to be hidden from view, all are free to see how DSO handles the customer's expressed frustrations and strives to correct the problems in a timely fashion. The employees of DSO make themselves available to private message and questions here, much of that on their own time, after hours.
These folks lay it on the line for people to see both the good, and the bad up front. It's mostly good, but when it goes bad, the response is focused on making the customer happy. That in my book goes a long way towards building confidence that Digital Storm is the right company to entrust my dream build to.

Yea, I was hesitant. My old computer which just happened to go obsolete because of pci-E and sli whichever, anways I had it for about 6 years which is pretty damn good. who knows, I might get more years out of this one. Once vanguard hit that is pretty much the last newest game I could play on a medium setting with it running just fine. Still it was alittle laggy but very playable. I was trying to make up my mind on which rig I wanted, I think my computer costs around $5,100 something. liquid cooling & x2 video cards is what will jump the price up alot. just the liquid cooling will jump that price up and will then have you make a decision if you want to spend that much. you can use that extra 600 for maybe some raptors, with a nice sound card, plus 5 extra fans for cooling which is $50. for 5 fans.
