Just a question. I ordered both a 2tb HDD and a 1TB SSD. Do you install the OS on the SSD by default or is that something that has to be requested?
Thanks in advance |

They will install the OS in the faster drive. In your case the SSD. You know that there are 2 different SSDs. SATA and NVMe. The latter is much faster and preferable. If you ordered your system with a SATA SSD you can request it be changed if still in the queue to be built and you want to change it.

A good tip to note is that we install the OS on the very first drive selected in our configurator.

Ah okay, I will remember this in the future. So whatever is in Storage Set 1 will be where the OS is installed. Looks like I am in good shape then! Thank you very much for the clarification. |

I had always expected this, but it's good to get official confirmation.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
I had an issue with my DS computer built last year where the OS was installed on the wrong drive (I had 3 drives in the rig, fastest drive was not initialized so no OS installed there). I think it would be really helpful to clearly indicate in the configurator which drive is for the OS. Or maybe ask people to specify clearly? Just a suggestion... And just so people know, DS support helped me get the OS installed on the correct drive and get everything set up without issue! Sincerely, KK |

I agree with this to be honest. I went and checked the Configurator and unless I missed it there is no indication that the OS will be installed on "Storage Set 1" regardless of whether it is the fastest (or slowest) of the selected storage devices. I suppose there is an argument that as number 1 that would be the default (which is in fact the case as we've had confirmed in this thread) but at the same time why not make it explicit? It's a minor and easy thing to add to the Configurator that would clarify this for consumers who may put the faster/desired OS drive at a spot other than 1 for one reason or another.

I don't know why I posted what I did. It stands to reason that the Storage Set 1 would be the OS drive. But clarity.......![]() |

The OS should always be installed on an SSD and thats all I know. Ill be fairly upset if I have to go through the process of switching it from an HDD. Id like to just get the PC and not have anything to worry about.

All of our builds on the site feature the SSD/M.2 drive to be Storage Set 1. This has never really been an issue with customers.
