My two bits:

Just do the Vista 64 bit. Vista as the future is debatable since any operating system is with us only so long. 64 bit as the future is not up for debate. It *is* the future, and that future is now. Since 64 bit XP is just plain awful, the choice is more obvious. 64 bit Vista is, IMO, the way to go.

Vista isnt too bad, though it has some braindead annoyances, and if your used to XP, it takes a while to relearn a few things.

Luckly they give you options to do a "classic" version which kinda gives you XP like screens. I definally use classic for the start button, that thing is just a freaking mess under vista default. For some reason they have Lock this computer, and install updates then shut down buttons, but the actual shut down option is buried in a menu in a tiny arrow button next to those two buttons.... And dont get me even started with the ALL programs list...the Xp one was sleek...The vista one...holy crap horrible.

i hated vista so much at first, i my heart sunk the first few days i used it, i thought i had made such a big mistake. but after getting more used to the OS and tweaking it a bit to personalize it, i love it, and who cares about the start menu layout??
windows key, first 4 letters of what you want, enter.

who needs to click through it?
