I've been a DS-lurker for a while now, eagerly waiting for the Ivy Bridge release to pull the trigger on a new system. I've been planning to configure a desktop when the time comes, but having read some favorable customer reviews on DS laptops, I'm realizing that I could benefit from the small footprint and other freedoms a laptop would provide.

I'd appreciate it if anyone who games regularly on a DS laptop could speak to how loud their system is. In my experience, laptops are quite noisy under heavy load and knowing that I'll be playing SWTOR, Skyrim, ME3, I'm concerned that the fans will be annoyingly loud.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly laptops aren't really loud at all, I've seen a few of our units, and I personally use one daily.

Thanks for the reply. I use one daily for work as well and it's loud, which is why I ask. I suppose it's a somewhat subjective question.

How upgradeable is a DS laptop? Assuming that it has all of the right slots, can a laptop be sent to DS for upgrades?

Thanks again.

You're welcome!

The laptops are upgradeable, the CPU and GPU use standard sockets which allow upgrades. You just need to make sure the upgrade you make isn't a higher power requirement than what the laptop's cooling system can handle (this applies to practically any laptop).
