Hello all,

I recently ordered a system from ibuypower and upon the first boot up....  blue screen!  They said I had a faulty graphics card.  Now it won't even turn on!  So needless to say I'm thinking about returning it for a refund.  However the reason I chose them in the first place is because I wanted to save money.  The ibuypower system had a core i7 940.  I'm very interested in the DS systems, but since they are little bit more expensive (and apparently worthy of the price), I was wondering if an overclocked core i7 920 would be a better option to save some money?  Any idea what the i7 920 can be overclocked to and still have stability?

yes 920 is just fine, you can get 3.5GHz to 3.8GHz with liquid cooling

return that system and do with DS

Dst4me has stated what ds will overclock you to but with the 920 chip if you tweak it yourself 4ghz should be acheived easily.

Yeah, I just got my rma for my refund.  Is an overclocked 920 actually better than the factory 940, since the at factory settings it only runs at 2.9 ghz?  Or are there other differences between the chips?

it should be I have a q9550 that gets higher scores in vantage than some of the qx9750's    The point of overclocking is to buy a cheaper chip and make it run like or better than the more expensive chip.  IMO

Cool.  I never really considered overclocking anything on my own, but if DS can do it professionally and I actually save money, I think I'll do it.  Overclocking doesn't void the warrenty on that part in any way does it?

just to be clear, what XpubuX means is that all part of the PC is under warranty, including the parts that are oced, so the whole PC as you buy it comes with a 3 year warranty.
