So I've tried two build, both with 2.66 OC, however, one build only allows for 6 Gb, one allows for 12 GB which is what I want.

but the latter cost about 500 more than the first. so I wonder if it's possible to get 2.66OC with 6 Gb and add another 6 Gb on my own? will I run into power supply problem? compatibility issue?

also if I get the 1600Mhz DS mushkin memory, do I have to buy the exact same for any other RAm addition?

yes you can add 6GB yourself, and its best to get the same ram, tho you don't have to.

ram does not need that much power, so its not an issue.

Your comp will read the slowest RAM and your fastest RAM will step down to your slowest and as far as same brand that too is not neceassary.

Adding 6Gb more RAM on an overclocked system will most like cause instability. The RAM places a huge load on the CPU, and needs to have the overclock re-done.

Overclocking a 920 with 12GB of ram will not be very great.  The chips I have recently seen through here wont do much more than 3.33GHz with 12GB.

Adding 6GB later to an already overclocked system will bring problems, and it will not be easy to get your system stable even when receiving help overclocking over the phone.

well. I'm perfectly okay with a 920 oc to 3.2 Ghz with 12 Gb. because I am looking for stability more than performance.

any DS person know if this is possible? or I should go with 960 + 12gb? based on the programs I described above, is 12gb too much overkill?

stick with 920 and 6GB if you see you need more ram then you can add more and lower your oc.

thanks DST, one last question b/f I place my order:

I use dual 22" 1680x1050, and I am going to get a bigger monitor, but not in at least a year :/   should I go with 1x5850, or 1x5870, or 1x5970? (I love how powerful the 5970 is and how many fps it gives in crysis, but should I ???? hm....)

(btw DST, I'm from DC too, and I incline to order a crate. b/c I don't want to risk any possibilities. any advice on that?)

So that brings up a question from me. My machine was OC to 3.33 with 3gig ram. I added another 3 gig when I recieved my machine in early Feb, shouldn't I be experiencing stability issues? Or is more for machines that take a huge leap in a memory boost, or, is it that I am just not understanding the conversation?

with that mild of OC and less dense RAM, I doubt you will have issues.

Couple questions for you because I'm gonna do the same this weekend and I share those same specs as you.

Did you need to loose the overclock before you installed the memory?

Is your CPU overclocked at an "easy overclock switch" or purly in the bios.

Thank you
