I have finally purchased the hardware to build my computer, and I will admit I do not spend a lot of time building computers, basically I am planning on building this one and not touching it for 5 or 6 years except for maybe putting in a new video card in three years or so.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me where to find information about overclocking or anything else that can be done these days to get everything possible out of a computer.  I have gotten some help on here picking out my hardware and I appreciate it a lot, and if I am better off just not touching anything then that's what I will do.  I would just hate to spend $1650 and not get everything I can out of what I bought.  Here is my hardware, thanks again.

I have found the guides, I guess I wasn't real clear on what I was asking.  I can find out how to do all of the things, what I am wondering is what should or shouldn't I do.  Are there things I can do that I don't even know about.  I guess at some point if I can't tell a difference by doing something then I shouldn't, but if I could safely do something to make my computer run better that wouldn't damage it I would.  I am looking for advice on what I should or shouldn't do, I can find guides to actually do them.

Each chip is different, so its temps and voltages and etc. are going to be different, just make sure your temps don't get too high, 80c for cpu, higher then that and you are getting in the hot territory, make sure your voltages are not set too high or you will fry the chip, read voltage allowance by your parts and make sure you don't exceed them.

start slow and go up slow.

So you would recommend going forward with OCing the CPU?  Is there such a thing as OCing the GPU or doing anything to the memory?

ya oc is great way to get extra speed with little cash.

yes you can oc the gpu, but most times its not needed.

memory oc is pointless.

I have told him twice to go with corsair but I think the bundle of psu and case is what it making it fit his budget, otherwise he will be over his budget.

Yeah... I was able to save 70 with the power supply because of the bundle/instant savings... I thought it got good reviews... What should I look for to know that it is causing problems or isn't working right?  Does it just die altogether or is there something else?

Trust me, those cooler master power supplies aren't the greatest.  They will work, though trying for a high overclock might be a challenge with the crappy ripple/noise suppression and voltage regulation.

Remember, all your hardware is at the mercy of that component.  I'd recommend SeaSonic, Corsair, or PC Power & Cooling.

I looked on Newegg at that 700w, they don't even list the amperage rating that the 12v rail has.  The pictures rated it at 50A, which isn't bad.  But that power supply is independently regulated, so you really only get 600w of available power on the 12v rail, which is the most commonly used.

The corsair is rated at 60A, has 720W on the 12v rail meaning it uses DC to DC conversion for the 3.3v and 5v rails.  I personally have had this power supply for over a year, I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Well I really appreciate your advice and that is absolutely why I came here looking for advice... I am going to return that power supply and swap it out for the power supply you and DST4ME recommended, even if it costs a little more.  Sorry I didn't just do that from the start... Since I am going to do that, are there any other changes you would recommend?  Here is where I stand right now...

I made the changes this morning, it will end up costing me about $70 more by the time I lose the bundle and have to pay extra shipping etc... Hopefully it will be worth it be a computer I can leave alone for 5 years.  Here is what I ended up with after all your help.  Thanks guys.
