this is a pretty handy one to get started

there are lots and lots and lots and lots of guides to be found on this, i'd reccomend spending a solid week just reading about it. you will find lots of differing opinions, approaches, etc but there is no right answer. every chip is different and different mobos/ram will respond differently to different settings, so there is a lot of trial and error involved

email alex on that one

id say if you overclock it past where they did and burn up the chip, that you are SOL, covering any damage that came from overclocking would be impossible

I was new to overclocking as well. After I became comfortable, I messed around with the OC several times and lowering the vcore. Before I started, I saved the profile and wrote on hard copy the original OC that was there, just in case.

When I ordered my DS, I went with the default 6GB RAM 1600mhz DS certified, but the BIOS listed as 1066mhz. I OC'd it but then the PC was unstable, not loading the OS. This was about last year, and I discovered that you need to update the EVGA x58 motherboard to take advantage of 1600mhz.

There are many guides so read them and YouTube helps also, but I wouldn't rely on one source too heavily. You build up self-confidence after a successful OC. I know I did.

what do you mean update the mobo to take adv of the 1600mhz ram? i ordered the DS cert ram at 1600mhz as well. got the tech nps one, was hopin for mushkin or kingston but o well, cant complain there as long as it runs 1600. yea i think i saw low numbers on my ram too but wasnt too sure how to read em. can you elaborate on taht a bit?

I received the Mushkin. I noticed that at BIOS it had the original OC to 3.75ghz (or around that) listed and then below it RAM 1066mhz listed instead of 1600mhz. I'm not comfortable to do this yet. Just recently I was browsing through TigerDirect and noticed EVGA motherboards says this (in red) ::

Note: A BIOS upgrade to version SZ1A may be required to use 1600MHz. The new BIOS, as well as upgrade instructions can be located on the EVGA website.

So a motherboard update is needed. Hopefully Alex will see this.

Made a mistake. This is not on all EVGA motherboards. Some needs to be flashed to take advantage of 1600mhz and others not.

Is the memory showing up as 1600MHz in Windows after you boot up? Use CPU-Z to verify the memory clock speed. When we overclock, the way the settings may be, they lower the memory ratio which later gets increased when the overclock gets applied.
