I want to OC my Amd 5600 but I'm not sure how far I should go.
At stock 2.8Ghz with a Thermaltake Max Orb It is currently (and usually) at 30 degrees.
Any help or tips would be much appreciated.

Does a high OC/high core voltage slow down the computer? As in spread it thin or something of that sort?

I just wanted some ideas of what to expect and how far I could safely go. And I have no idea what to do for that matter. :P

Overclocking an AMD rig isn't as straight forward as overclocking an Intel based machine. Don't expect as much headroom to overclock either. You have to underclock the Hyper Transport, and then start creeping the CPU frequency setting up a little at a time. Also, RAM speed is *much* more important with an AMD processor than an Intel when overclocking.

As for what you can expect? Probably about a 10% overclock. The Jan. 2008 issue of MaximumPC has a very basic overclocking guide for both Intel and AMD, if you wanted to pursue this further.
