Hey all,
I'm sorry if this has been answered before (although I've already checked), but would I need a better cooling system if I were to install a second graphics card in SLI? I think it should be okay with the basic stage one air cooling I have now, however I thought I'd ask anyways. Also, is getting a second decent graphics cards really a better investment than just upgrading to a single (slightly) better graphics card, such as a second 8600GT 256MB over a single 8800GT 512MB? Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks, begebies |

If you're looking to improve framerates in game, upgrading from a mainstream (8600GT) to a performance card (8800GT) is always the better choice. You won't see much benefits from SLI with mainstream cards since they have such a small amount of memory and bandwidth.

Thanks. Now I just need to worry about how to pay for the upgrade.
But really, I've found a XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB DDR3 on tigerdirect.ca for $256.99. Do you know of any retailer who might sell it for less? They also have overclocked versions of the card for less, however I'm concered whether my stage one air cooling could cope with them. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks again, begebies |

Are you from Canada?
www.directcanada.com and www.ncix.com offers the most competitive canadian prices. You can grab a 8800GT for as low as $100. If you're in the US, www.newegg.com is the best =) Temperatures shouldn't be a problem as long as your case has decent airflow. But if you are concerned with cooling. You can pick up a 9800GTX for $199. Edited by skyR - 22 Jun 2008 at 3:01pm |
