i recently built a computer for my mom that is more powerfull then my own. (facepalm) anyway it runs great and plays my steam games like arma2, darkets of days, and other stress full programs.
however, when i ran prime 95 it came back with a error saying it rounded incorectly and it was expected to be 0.2 and its 0.3. i thought that it could no overheat in the 10 seconds it was on and its a OS or hardware issue thats not faulty or overehating, it just does not like the instruction set, i dont know.
so i played my games for a while, 2 hours, it was fine, ran them on high all the time.
then my mom got on and started to play sims 3. it got horzontial green lines on the screan. rebooted, and looked at the temps, EVERYTHIGN WAS BELOW 60C!!! so i ran sims in windowed mode and looked at the temps again, speed fan has like
local 1
local 2
temp 1
temp2
temp3
core
and the gpu is not in there but ati's CCC has a temp.
anyway the temp 1/2/3 spike up level out and spike back down then you start, run, and close the alpication respectilivy.
now this artifacting happened several times, even the screen saver will do it, or the computer will just lock up with a redish tint to the screan.
i tryed new paste on the cpu, that did not help and the temps still spike.
now im left with 3 options, the cpu needs a better cooler then stock-its a 955 BE- the ram needs a fan becaseu thats nice and warm or my temp sensors taht the factory installed are all off in the whole system, with is like a .0001% chance.
this is in a thermaltake element V its got 2-120mm front, 230 side intake and a 120 back and a 200mm right above the cpu exhaust.
can you guys figure it out. i have not ran memtest or simalier programs.
what confuses me is how it will handle arma2/halflife lost coast on ultra high, but fails at the low stress like red orchestra. also it has never done this to me, its always my mom or my sister.
but, please help me fix this because my mom would like her system to be stable, and just so you know here are the specs
thermaltake element v
amd 955BE stock
5770 from safphire---still have not flashed BOIS to the 800 shader-no flash drive
6 gigs of 1600 mhz ddr3 with a nice cooler on them. http://www.ocztechnology.com/images/products/memory/b/DDR2_XTC_DC.jpg
and a 650 or 750 what psu, just call it a 700W
thanks again for the help!

if Prime95 errrored, then the PC is not stable, due to bad overclock, or faulty RAM, or bad RAM settings.

well, the ram is set to a 4:1 ratio or 1:4, but the speed is set at the stock speed.
and i did not overclock becaseu there is no need to yet, its overclocking a i7 to get 2 more frames per second but potentiualy taking years off its life, but it will still last 10 years with the overclock.
anyway, i cant figure out thats wrong, i looked in the bois and everything is good, remounted the cpu and the cpu cooler, made sure the ram is seated right, all the plugs, power connecters, and temps are fine, except, temp 1, temp 2 temp3 all spike up 10C when you start a program
10c in 13 seconds in not right, but in the bois there is only the CPU core temp sensor, so is temp 1/2/3 the ram? can ram have temp sensors? and thats the programs name that does tests on the ram only, memcheacker or something like that?
and could winblows 7 64 bit be messing with prime 95?
thanks

o and jsut some more info, prime 95 gets errors on my computer that i know for a fact the tmps are fine on everything, speed fan has core 1 core 2 and cpu, and gpu.
i forget the error that it says but after 2 min it fails. i have read things that people are saying prime95 is faulty and it will be fine, but primes website says that you DO have a problem and it might be ok for ever, but there is still a problem.
so, im going to pull out a ram stick, see if the temp 3 goes away, then i will know that the temp 1/2/3 are ram if it goes away.
thanks again

are you using prime95 for 64bit?
prime95 is not faulty. lol
ram temp?
it fails in 2min? then you are very unstable, most likely RAM, post up some CPUz screen shots, like the main tab, memory ect.

im perty sure im using the 64 bit version and prime 95 is not faulty, my copy might be was what i was thinking.
the ram temps are not in the BOIS, but in speed fan i have those temp 1/2/3 that i talked about in the other 2 posts.
and the shots of the cpu, like CPU-Z or the bois becasue i dont know how to get bois screan shots.
im just worried because BOTH of my computers fail prime 95. my prebuilt POS gateway and teh computer i built my self
the main one that im worried about is the SELF built.
and can you explane the spikeing temps???? i thought that was not right, it should be a curve or hill type thing right?

can't get BIOS screen shots.
I still don't see how you can read RAM temps, I think you are mistaken there.
Still need CPUz screenshots to help you out

well, not everything has gone to hell. the computer gets a blue screen that says total memory dump.......... like FOUR TIMES A DAY, with random crashes, this could be i virus, i put some old HDDs that had tons of music from my moms winblows 98 and it could have moved, the free copy of norton did not find it however.....
this is really starting to tick me off, i think im going to have to lower the ram speed, the ram slots say 1.6V max, but the ram wants to run at 1.65 so thats probley the problem for the dumps and random crashes, but, the biggest thing is this. my 5770 vapor x had the wrong bois, it disabled 80 shaders, so i flashed to the sapphire bois that they put out to fix this EXACT problem, and the fan quit moving, im RMAing that but until then this computer has to run a 7650gs.... so im having just tons of fun cpuz says its a 955 BE quad core cpu, i really dont see how that would help us... ANYONE please help |

(its been past 30 days so newegg wont RMA it). use at your own risk, but be warned also, the driver controles the fan right? and if i tryed the gpu in 2 different computers and the fan in both did not move, wtf is up....?/?? thanks, this is getting me a little POed |
