I am building a gaming rig with a budget of $3000 and I am confused as to which motherboard is better. Here is my config so far.

If you're picking it for the USB 3.0 you can just select the EVGA USB 3.0 PCIe card from the Add-on Card menu instead for much cheaper, just $25. If you're picking it for the SATA III 6Gb/s, don't.
That build is kind of jumbled, try this for a better base to build from. Ticket Number: 430725 Total Price with Instant Savings: $1,995.00 Direct Load URL: http://www.digitalstormonline. That definitely improves on my build as I did not think I could get away with a 750W power supply. Between the EVGA x58 LE, P6X58D and Rampage 3 extreme which board has better on board audio?

Oh that's easy. They all use the Realtek ALC889 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC, so they should all sound identical. |

Is Asus fan Xpert useful and are the temperature control interfaces worth considering.

I don't see the appeal of fan controllers. Only something like add on performance Zalman fans are even loud enough to warrant needing to fiddle with their speeds, but the Zalman fans themselves aren't worth it anyway, so I don't see the point.

Ok, I was only going to use fan controllers to minimize power usage but if it's not necessary that's good to know. The most important thing to me in this build is airflow my small bedroom can get up to eighty degrees at times.

sadly, the rooms temp matters almost as much as the fans you use, the cooler the room, the better

Get the Rampage III Extreme.. It has a better layout for you to go tri or quad GPU setup (if need be) anytime in the future. Performance wise though, both will perform roughly the same.. As a side note, the
R3E will suit your arsenal which already comprises of all the best
available components in the market (and you like the color scheme anyway..

But when are tri or quad GPU setups ever needed? And the EVGA x58 LE already does triple GPUs. So if both support triple GPUs and both perform the same, why spend an extra +$219 for a pretty color scheme? That's just wasteful. |

Bah, disregard, should of trusted my gut when I seen abbie constantly looking at a "Access denied" area earlier, it's just a bot or someone trying to advertise their stupid 'laptop bag' site.

hahahaha
its so funny to get on in the morning knowing ill see at least one exchange with you and a bot
though your points are valid :)
not that i spend much time looking in to 3 / 4 card setups, but i believe at the end of the day both motherboards will do 16x 8x 8x or 8x * 4, so the multicard support wouldnt be any different
i have to say, the more i read, the less i want to back up asus over evga, i feel the dark side pulling me... or the light side, i guess that depends on perspective

smart bots lately lol
The RE III does have a way better PCIE slot layout, allowing for tri-sli on most cases.
For the average DS customer, the RE III is better with multi cards, besides a better PCIE layout, it also has molex connectors to boost power to the PCIe rails, a huge weak spot on most mobo's when running multi cards.
And, the VRM, NB cooling is also better, plus a ton of little details, but for mild usage, the little differences, and BIOS changes won't really matter.

I will probably be running a single card layout but I am looking for fan speed controls and it comes down to which board is better for gaming.

This was already gone over, repeatedly, both here and in the thread I linked earlier. Neither perform better with a single card setup, so why would you want to spend the extra +$219 for the superfluous extras of the RE III? Get the LE, put the extra to much better use on other parts. |

yes, the Le will perform very well. The RE III is geared more towards pushing the limits of RAM/CPU GPU's. DS will not be doing that, and I doubt most people ever will.
So if you are not going to be doing that, then you will never notice the the difference. want 260+ B clocks? yes, Then get the RE III. lol

Ok Le sounds good but what about usb 3.0 support since I will probably go with the HAF X case?

If you want USB 3.0 on the cheap, you can select a PCIe add on card. It's in the options directly under the video card selections. Add-on Card: EVGA 2 Port SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Host Card (PCI-E Slot) [+$25] |

Ok now I am reading in industry news that a new socket is coming and I found out that it might be available in early 2011 and christmas was the earliest I could afford to upgrade so I might just wait until DS gets the new socket gear.

Christmas? Gah. What a waste of time. After 4 months have gone by all prices will be drastically different and entirely different selections of parts will be available (or not longer available).
Computer tech is extremely fast moving, you can't configure something that far ahead of time dude. |

yea, buying tech on the bleeding edge like that is a good way to screw yourself pretty hard, not only will you pay wayyyyyyyyyy too much but you also get to be an involentary member of the "test group" who gets to crash, fry things, get dead boards, and have shadow errors for months while everything settles. if you must wait, wait and then buy 1366 as its price will liklely come down even further when the new tech is about to come out

Yeah, must wait but I definitely see your point my family has been in the "test group" for several cars in the last few years so I understand why buying new models can be dangerous.

If I get the EVGA Le board will it work with the two front usb 3.0 ports on the HAF X? Also does the expansion card only add ports to the back panel?
