Do you give yourself a limit when playing games? I tend to be anxious and cannot sleep well when I spend too much time playing games especially violent ones. My maximum is 3-4 hours. I can't go beyond that. How long do you play?

After being quarantined (and a short stint in medical isolation) I find that I can comfortably sit and play games for over 12 hours a day. Having said that, I generally have not been playing violent/PvP/twitch shooter types but tend more toward the 4X, puzzle or simulation games. (Civ 6, Railway Empire, Poker, Elite: Dangerous, etc.)
It is calming as the other choices for recreation have been removed from consideration. |

LOL. Winning is definitely an incentive to play longer.
Games like Call of Duty MP are good for a couple of hours because they’re twitch fest games , pretty intense and I found exhilarating but tiring. I am 71, so there’s that. Going up against 20 year old tweaked on Red Bull that play all day is fun but not exactly relaxing. Like Snaike, I can play Civ 6, Wasteland 3 and similar games for hours. Relaxing. |

Right now for me I need an escape. Gaming!!!! Just installed on my PCs and PS4 Cyberpunk 2077. So far so good. BUT I'm also enjoying the hell outta Wreckfest and Torchlite lll.
For just a little bit I can forget those 12 Hrs at the hospital. So relaxing to get rid of a Boss(video game not my real boss ). |

Wreckfest is GREAT for a laugh! Get the busses and harvesters and put them all in the Demolition Derby rings while you ride a riding lawnmower! One of the greatest games I own when I want to be silly. Yes, there's still a lot, LOT, of serious racing to be done, but then again sometimes you just want to giggle. Great choice.

I liked Wreckfest so much I had to uninstall it. My "steering thumb" feels the pain with just the memory of it.
As for time playing games and sleep? Ideally, in order to get quality sleep, one should turn off the screens and begin winding down a few hours before bed. But lets face it. We're on the forum of a high-end custom PC builder. We're not exactly casual gamers here. At least I'm not. |

I think all violent games can cause this esp when you play them for a long period of time.

Indeed. You get irritated easily and there's just an emotional rollercoaster that will cause your brain to fire up.

Maybe that's because of lack of sleep?

Or not enough water intake. I've watched a video about that.

Vitamin D naturally we get from the sun, right? Makes sense as most of us don't get enough staying inside all day.

I've been going stir crazy for a long while now. For about a year been doing back-to-back surgeries and recovery periods -- not life critical procedures but important ones. Ultimately, I haven't done any substantial activity, including being outdoors for almost two years now.
Yep. And I was indeed prescribed that. ANY WHO... Back on topic... Everyone is different but lots of stimulation can make it more difficult to calm down, not reach deep sleep. As for gaming... I haven't had a lot of time. I do turn-based games (e.g., Carcassonne) on mobile and have been playing on console (Xbox). Mostly Sea of Thieves but campy players make it extremely tiresome and annoying. Halo is the primary FPS I did play, which is a little less violent, cartoon-ish style. For a change of pace, I've repurchased Myth II: Soulblighter -- best RTT/RTS ever! I lost track of my original copy because of lack of support updates. However, Project Magma has fixed that. I wouldn't mind reviving some Civilization playtime as well, it's a good franchise/series. Additionally, I want to at least try Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 -- it looks SO pretty. The only time I experienced flight sim was back in the '90s, when the physics weren't bad though the visuals were far from eye candy -- think classic Doom graphics without the compensation of action. Wow, hope you are all well now. These last 2 years have been very taxing for some and having health issues has been a new experience with all the protocols in place to avoid infection! A lot of people have gone without regular doctor visits and the general health of the population has gone down!

Interesting Thread!
At 69 years old, I find gaming gives me a chance to explore a fantasy world that becomes real when I participate! I love the intermix of virtual reality with what we call reality! |
