I finally got my new PC! Woohoo! I took the day off from work to wait for the UPS man. And waited and waited and waited......Finally about 5:45 PM I was on the phone with UPS to find out where the heck it was when the UPS truck pulled up. I was extremely relieved. I was too tired running to the door everytime I heard a truck to install anything good to try it out yet. But it looks good and it seems to work so far. I did have a crash after running it for a few hours however. It looked like there was a hardware error of some sort on the screen but the system rebooted too fast for me to see it.
The only thing I could find wrong with the system is that there is this scrape on top of the system near the side panel about the width of my thumb. Everything else looks perfect.
The inside cable running was very neat. A little too neat because I can't find the extra power cable from the power supply yet! lol
Over the weekend I am going to install demos and then purchase a video card straining game to see just how fast my new baby really is

Good to hear it arrived safely.Mine will be traveling about the same distance as yours did.Let me know how your games run on it.Ive pretty much got the same config as you.Call Of Duty 4 is a great game to pick up if you dont already have it.if you really want to put it to the test, pick up Crysis.

My UPS man decided to come at the CRACK OF DAWN for the first time in his life today. Of course I missed the doorbell and got the dreaded "oh hi, we'll come back on Monday" paper. GRRRR. I've been on the phone with their people all day trying to get the guy to come back to my house.
update: I've been authorized to intercept his truck at 5:00 at a top secret location. I hope he is prepared. Edited by Mythius101 - 18 Jan 2008 at 1:55pm |

When did you order it? Also did you pay the extra 25 to have the cable neatly done up? Did you go vista or xp?
ANd Last but not least.

Lets see... I ordered it on 12/14/07, I did not ask for the cables to be made neat and I went with XP Home. I plan on installing Vista in a dual boot mode come December once I have this all paid off on my credit card.
This will be me after it takes over my soul sometime this weekend. lol

I'm holding off on the review until I can get a re-occuring BSOD issue resolved. Looks like I get to test DS Tech Support usage :)

I am seriously thinking about canceling my order. You can only blame so much on shipping.Ive read a bunch of reviews here about systems crashing.A stock system should run flawless right out of the box.Shipping defects do happen but it seems excessive.sorry guys but im not getting a good feeling about things.

Gary, I have to honestly tell you that, I see where you are coming from, but, a 95% of the customers that are using our systems aren't going to go in the forums and say my computer is working. The only users that will come on the forums are people that are having issues or need customer service. That's why we have the forums here. It allows our customers to post issues for us to resolve and for any other customer in the future to look it up and find a resolution to it. It's honestly your decision, but, I definitely wouldn't let something like that scare you away. A blue screen doesn't mean it's a bad shipping defect, or the way a certain company builds the computer. It can be compatibility issues and drivers (which is true almost every time).
Please take a moment and re-think your decision. You would be surprised if some of our competition had the forums like we do. There is a reason why they don't it, because it would be over flooded with complaints. We take every issue and resolve it to a higher degree than the customer would expect. That's the true definite way of customer service. There is also a reason why we offer a 30-Day money back guarantee. It starts from the day you receive the computer, not when you placed your order. I'm going to add a third category of people on this forum Gary. People that are so pleased with their Digital Storm experience that they spend time here, helping people with problems and doing their level best to answer the questions we had as customers looking to buy.
When you look at the posts by guys like SkyR, Bill The Cat, Commast, or really, any one of the dozens of happy customers that spend freely of their time to help out on this forum, I think that speaks volumes about the sort of company Digital Storm is. I've seen instances where customers react as though they have been personally insulted when DSO is criticized *cough* EdH63 *cough*.
I just want to throw in one thing more. The fact that other companies edit, pick and choose what reviews and comments they allow on their sites, does not mean they don't have problems. What it does mean, is that they are disingenuous about the issues their customers encounter, or are simply not proud of the way those issues are resolved.
For my part, I am amazed at the dedication Alex, Dave, and the other Digital Storm management show to their customers.
The decision is yours Gary, but consider: problems and issues are inevitable with complex electronics and 'bottom line motivated' manufacture process is going to result in bad hardware making it into the supply chain. Sometimes, these defects take weeks to show up, even making it through exhaustive quality checks prior to failure. Software has grown increasing complex, and the sheer number of devices available will inevitably lead to conflicts with operating systems and drivers. If the worst were to happen, and you find yourself the unfortunate recipient of one of those defective items or with software conflicts that generate seemingly random BSOD's, ask yourself what sort of people you want addressing the problems you might encounter.
Personally, I'd rather deal with a company with the integrity and confidence to make those problems and their resolutions public.

O.K Alex heres what im going to do.Since this is going to be strictly a gaming sytem im going to have you install Crysis on it and test it.Since i havent purchased the game yet i will pay for the game and testing.I will call you on monday and confirm that with you or who ever i speak with.I hope this will not hold up shipping the box.Im just alittle leary right now because ive had Soyata computers out of Rochester build my boxes for me and they have run for years with no hiccups, plus they are local.I will keep my deal with DS and ill call monday to confirm the new pricing. Thanks for the reply Alex.I did check my email and no confirmation. My mail is working because i just have recieved some messages from my sister.

Tyler, first of all thank you for explaining everything. Gary, that's perfectly fine. I do want to mention one thing, I don't want you to feel as if purchasing a game and having even me test it for several hours will weed out an issue with a system that our 72-hour stress testing cannot find. If that was the case, we would be installing Crysis on every system and testing it individually because in the end we obviously want our customers to experience the least amount of issues. Anyways, we can take care of that for you, I will personally play Crysis on it after hours. It shouldn't really delay the system at all.
I re-sent you the invoice via a different route, let me know if that worked.
Also, in regards to Soyata computers, I see your point, but, honestly, computers aren't the way they use to be. Back in the days, you could build a new computer and not even worry about testing the hardware. You knew it would work fine, boy have times changed now. Dealing with bad batches of hardware and other supply issues is really tightening things up for system integrators like us. I definitely do see some of the competition closing their doors that don't have a system in place for these types of issues. Edited by Alex - 19 Jan 2008 at 10:46pm |

Gary, I had to wait for my computer for more than one month. I was about to cancel my order, and tried asking for full refund. Alex will confirm this too... My system got delayed 3 days with UPS. Still when I received my system, it wasn’t working. I had to skip my classes trying to fix the issue. I missed talking to my counselor, and had to take another class. Also I spent a lot of extra minutes on my VW plan while I was trying to fix my system, which cost like +$200. Still, I honestly never felt bad ordering from DS. They are taking care of everything, doing the best they can and believe me no other company would do what they have done so far. At least when I call, I have friendly, respectful, employees that deal with me, as if I was talking to a friend. They care about me as a customer, and doing the best to make me satisfied. Give them the chance on ur system, as I am more than happy giving them another chance on my 2nd system. Beleive me, think of the best companies in the world, they encounter same, even worst problems than this. I had so many pc before, X so much overheating that I had to put a fan next the case, and the over heating was from the case itself, they never wanted to fix it, replace it, nothing... Y $6000 system that was running games 25 fps, and were never able to fix the prob, after sending it back/forward couple times, and u pay for all the shiping. Z im not going to start with the probs I had, dont know where to start, lol. I turned my pc, blue screen. I had to reformat my computer. I play a game, crash. I am watching a movie, crash. Surfing the internet, I get an error, and have to restart pc.... I call them, answer machine, get transfered from like 2-3 departments. An asian employee tries to fix my prob that I was telling how to fix things.. ended up building my own pc, that I am still using today, until I get my new DS
DS managed to make me rebuilt the PC on the phone. They sent someone from UPS at my palce and picked the system, I didn't pay $1. They are replacing my system, and rebuilding a new one (Case, cables, hardwares, softwares) everything new.
Be proud, and happy u are here, as I guarantee u, you will be satisfied...
I can't wait for my new system, as I upgraded my motherboard to the evga 780i, and the new qx9650.

Gary,
As long as any company is as willing to replace bad components as DS is, I wouldn't be nervous about ordering. It's just something to be a ware of. That no matter what computer you order from any company, there is a chance that you will end up with failing parts when you get it home. I worked Gateway tech support for two years and it happened quite often.
My Dad bought a Dell and it didn't work when he turned it on. They sent out a technician to replace the entire insides of his system. And once I bought an expensive Sony WEGA online which had a screwed up picture right out of the box. Their tech support, couldn't fix it, the tech they sent out to fix it couldn't fix it, so they sent me out a new one.
So no matter who makes a product, as long as they are willing to work with you to get you a working computer/TV, then they are a credible company. Once my saga is over for a working PC, I hope to be able to give DS a good review :)

Since the 8800 GT seems to have a LOT of problems with over heating and crashing systems, can anyone recommend the 8800 Ultra or the 8800 GTX over the 8800 GT?
Thinking of trading up if they are better.

Well, I said it befor and I'll say it again. My DS computer hardware works fine. Works fine right out of the box and I live in MA so it was shipped cross country. I got it Oct 23 2007. The 8800 Ultra is nice. I was playing UT3 for about five hours yesterday. Yes, I know I've got to get a life.

First post here, but yeah, looking forward to your review Nlin whenever you get a chance to post it up.
Basically, the customer service from the DS guys that actually treats it's customers like people and not customer #numbers has me signed up already. Hardware/driver issues are always a risk, but it's nice to know that if I do encounter these issues with my huge investment that I'm actually going to be able to find REAL assistance with it and not feel like I'm going to have to deal with some jerk. Basically, just letting the DS guys know that their assistance on these forums to existing customers (not to mention the uncensored customer reviews) has convinced me to invest in a DS built system. |

Nlincourt:
I got 2 of the 8800GTS 512 cards in my brand new system. I haven't had one problem with them yet. I changed to these cards from the GT just before my system shipped precisely because of the problems that seem to occur far too often with the GT. I think nVidia made a bad decision when they went with a single-slot cooling mechanism. I do have a few friends that have the GT card and haven't had any problems, so, who knows. I would trust DS to properly test a system with a GT card and not hesitate to order one if that's what you want. |
