hello everyone
i am new to this forums so i am slowly learning the ways of these forums. i have a question about a configuration that i could not find on the site. i went to nvision08 and i met some of the people that were there at the digital storm booth and i got a t-sh*t which i wear a lot. at the corner of the table was a computer that was phase change cooled. so i decided to ask one of the reps. there about some further configurations that could be done to the system. the configuration that i wanted to know about was having the phase change cooling extended to the GPU's so that the GPU's could be phase change cooled. i expected for the guy to say no but i was wrong, HE SAID YES. so now i wondering if it still can be done, i am looking into buying a new system. i don't know when but i know that money is no object. i am willing to lay down major cash if i think it is worth it. i havent called yet because i cant find the business card of the guy i talked to. but maybe when i get the time i will call the number on the main site, but personally i would prefer to talk to the source of this information. So can anyone help me to find out if this can be still done and for how much. any help would be greatly welcomed. thanks for the help, Sniples |

Personally I would think your best bet is to call them. They are very helpful. I wish I could help you further, but I have no knowledge of this tech. Maybe someone else on here could help you out.

thanks for the help.
i think i will call them. i just thought it would be better to talk to the guy who told me this information and i really don't care about the loudness. maybe they can put some sound proof foam in it to just dumm it down a little but but not too much. some sound i good. it show how much power it is packing, and not to mess with the beast. |

Please keep us posted if you do end up with one, I would love to hear what you think and noise and all that stuff.

Just a question DST, wouldn't LC be better than phase change? or am I completely wrong?

i think phase change cooling will be better. from what i have seen of CPU's being phase chage cooled they get a lot cooler then if the CPU was water cooled.

Whether or not phase change cooling will work is certainly not the question - themodynamics are thermodynamics, whether it's a CPU or a GPU. Most commercially available phase change (or hybrid systems that utilize phase change dynamics but either shut off some effects or have counterbalancing mechanics to address the condensation issues) devices have contacts for GPUs, but a lot of enthusiasts have certainly modified them to be used for GPUs as well...of the two or three people I know who have gone the VapoChill/Prometia route in the past, all have used liquid or air for their GPUs.
It's certainly possible and technically feasible, but commercially you're really getting into niche services here.

o wow nice. I see that DS has added a thermoelectric cooler for the CPU. I will be sticking with LC
Not looking to break any records anytime soon.

i just called them.
they guy said that the system was just a prototype. and they are not selling it. and he also said they they are not going to go down the path of offering phase change cooled systems. so it is back to looking for a system can anyone tell me where else they sell complete phase change cooled systems? |

also i was wondering if it is possible to phase change cool a GPU on my own?
if so is there a tutorial out there that shows how to do this? |

seen digitalstorms phase change cooled system?
and if so yes i have. i have seen it at nvision08 and if you are talking about phase change cooling the GPU's i have also seen that but i am not sure where i saw it. so that is why i asked this great community maybe they can lead me in the right direction. |

yes i have.
but this only cools CPU's and i think at the time it only supports a small amount of CPU's and i heard of that system being extended to GPU's but it will only be for AMD GPU's and i personally prefer NVIDIA. if i have to build this system i would most likely end up getting the block for the Corei7 chip for the phase change cooler custom made (unless if a block for the i7 is released before the build) and same with the GPU block or just modify a water cooling block. but i am not sure if that is possible. |
