Hello all...I've been poking around on these forums for the better part of 6 months now (not much else to do while deployed) and I've been content just to sit back and read everyone else's threads to satisfy my curiosities...but the time has come to ask my own question as no one else has:

What is the DSO OC for the new Phenom II 940?

I read all these reviews about how easy it is to OC and the 3.5GHz ~ you 'can' achieve on air colling alone...but that's not good enough for me...I want my LC Angry

But no one here has posted any info or details and I'm starting to wonder if anyone out there even has a Phenom II from DSO.

This 'was' my build for those who are curious: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=245579

I'm getting down to the end of my time here in Kyrgyzstan and computer-buying-time is eminant and some last minute info will help me make up my mind.

Oh P.S. Please don't spam me with i7 alternative builds, I already have one and it's likely what I'm going with. Ouch

----------------Edit: It's rather disheartening that no one out there has a PII OC'd by DSO.Wink

I can't deny it's faster...but the majority of games are GPU driven and the difference between my two options are marginal. At first I didn't think the new AMD chipset would disuade me from my i7 build...but the more and more reviews I see, the more and more I'm drawn to it.

The new NVidia cards really shine on the i7 platform. And it might not be true that the games are only GPU driven, a computer can have a bottleneck because of the CPU as well.
Why do they blame me for all their little failings? They use my name as if I spent my entire day sitting on their shoulders, forcing them to commit acts they would otherwise find repulsive - Lucifer

Yaaaa...I fold. As much as I want to see AMD make a come back and start putting a serious hurting on Intel's stranglehold (down with monopolies!)...I just HAVE to spend the extra $200 and get a i7 which is not just a  faster CPU, but is a more technologically advanced system altogether. But more than anything I don't want to get the AM2+ chips because they still use DDR2 and when the AM3 chips come out the price gap between them and the i7 will shrink even more since they'll both use DDR3 RAM. I have no doubt that Dell and other brands will offer powerful gaming computers using the Dragon platform at rock bottom prices, but that's not for me.

Here's my i7 build...comments if you please:

I'm not wild about the HAF...I'll get an Antec 1200 if I can but otherwise I prefer the 900. And I also want a fast HD and space really isn't an issue for me. I have externals for data storage. But why do you advise against the veloci? Oh and the psu was a typo of sorts...it should be the 750w option. But I'm more or less not upgrading this computer very much in the future: another 6gigs of ram 'if' it ever becomes neccessary and maaaaybe another 4870x2...but doubtful. I'm a severely budget crippled computer user usually. The only reason I can finally swing $2000+ dollars on a computer is the nice fat checks I get while I'm deployed so I don't foresee too many opportunities to upgrade.

The 900 is simple, spartan and I like the look of it in general...the 1200 is just a larger version of the 900 really.

I do prefer the Silverstone Raven to the 1200 and the HAF so depending on pricing of the 1200 I might just get the "1050si" raven. We'll see.

Ya, I've seen mixed reviews about the Raven, even DS lists it's cooling as superior to all thier other cases yet alot of people say it's not /shrug. I really like the styling and it's unique board layout.

Actually, many people are finding that the phenom II x4 940 can OC to 4.0Ghz on air if it's a good cooler and a good case. Still, if you liquid cool, the odds are better that you can achieve 4.0Ghz or higher. Think Anandtech was complaining that they couldn't quite reach the 4.0Ghz barrier on their setup. It would run stable at 3.988Ghz, but no higher. I'd take that 3.9 Ghz and be quite happy. That isn't going to affect how games perform. Big%20smile
