Is it really worth the money at first, and what does it do?

I'd say no.  There are only a handful of games that come with any support for them.  Since nvidia purchased the physics card company, all future gforce cards will came with physics acceleration.  Dont quote me on this but I think they will make geforce 8 & 9 physics capable too.

From everything that I've read, they're not worth the money.

Absolutely NOT!

First, only few games supprt them. Second, if you own a Geforce 8 or better GFX card, Nvidia will enable physics processing with a driver upgrade. I believe that should happen soon. I also believe that ATi will do something similar.

So, avoid the physics cards. Do not get it even if it was offered to you for free ... just a waste of a PCI slot.

Believe it or not, it looks like ATI is actually going to be using NVidia's software driven version of the Phys-X physicss engine.

Any dedicated discrete physics card is, at this point a waste of money IMO.

Actually, I hate to burst the bubble for all you nay-sayers.

Nvidia purchased Ageia in February.  Since then, 89 game titles, and somewhere around 200 game companies signed on to use the PhysX engine from Nvidia.  Now, with the Cuda based PhysX driver coming out soon, sure, any GPU that is 88xx on up will be able to render PhysX on the GPU.  But... Jason Paul (Nvidia) states (at the 2008 NVTech Conference in Santa Clara that I was able to attend on behalf of Digital Storm) that they will not be releasing  a dedicated physx card due to the fact that PhysX is going to be a GPU rendered driver, but, those who purchased the Ageia dedicated PhysX PPU, will see an even more PhysX performance.

I myself am very excited with the new direction the PhysX based graphics are going and I feel that if it is in your budget, you should get a PPU.  If it isn't you won't be missing out soon, but if you get one, you'll be even better off.

A couple of questions:

Does the physic card run well on vista 64 bit?
Is there a list of games would benefit from the card available anywhere?
On average, how much of an improvement would we see on games like Crysis- a couple fps or what?

The Card runs great on vista x64.

there is a list of games.  Google physx games, and you'll get this list:

And Crysis has their own PhysX engine.  Therefore, it wouldn't make a difference.

MarkNY, you do not need the card because you have GeForce 8800.

Kelly, did Nvidia say whether they will continue supporting Ageia's stand-alone physx cards in the future (driver upgrades, etc)? If not, then I would not recommend anyone buying this card.

Of course they are because Ageia is now the physx department of Nvidia.
