Topic: Physx card 8800gt? Posted: 20 Nov 2008 at 2:02pm |
So I was wondering if it would improve performance if I used a 8800gt card for physx along with the currently installed gtx280. I currently have an extra 8800gt laying around is why im asking and how do you set up a physx card. Thanks in advance.

Ok so if on my tv I am currently using the hdmi connection so could I just connect the physics card to the vga connection on my tv. Also im not quite understanding the need for both to be connected to monitors. Do I just ignore the monitor that is connected to the physx monitor and it will do physx on the monitor connected to my regular card.

Considering the date on that article, I would imagine they'd have made a workaround in needing the GPU doing the PhysX to have been connected to the visual device.
Anyways I think what's happening is is that everything is being displayed through your 8800 GT, not your GTX 280, try to see if you can switch from Analog to Digital. |

physx only helps with games that support it and it just adds to the graphics you see, its does not make the resolution any better, atleats thats the way I understood it.

Wait wait wait wait. For starters. your TV should be the one that has the ability to switch between which device should be used to display stuff.
And you shouldn't remove it, (Unless it really is acting up even if you tried switching to Digital) He has an 8800, he can have SOME use for it. The purpose of using the 8800 is so that you can have a seperate card do the PhysX calculations for a game. Sure he can let the GTX 280 do everything instead if he sets up PhysX on a single card, but that's putting more load on it. He has an 8800, let THAT do the PhysX and the GTX 280 just do Graphic rendering. Have you actually NOT tried having the VGA cable connected? It's impossible for Nvidia to have not fixed the Vista issue by now lol. |

Ya I tried hooking up the vga but no luck I dont know but every thing was going really slow even opening windows. I took it out and put it back in my dell. What else could I try cause it only takes a second to put the card back in.

And for some reason things still moved slow even if only your GTX 280 was the only one that had a connection?

Hrrrrrm.... admittingly I don't have any such hardware to try this myself. But in my mind this are things I'd try doing if I was under such circumstances.
Have you tried reinstalling the drivers while the 8800 was installed? I'd do that myself.... (Of course using the drivers for the GTX 280 though.) In fact uh, have you updated to 180.48? Edited by Axel Daemon - 20 Nov 2008 at 8:35pm |
