I do have a tight budget, and I don't think the Intel is that much better. I've even asked a lot of people and it seems like the AMD is as good or better than intel. Intel may have more Ghz, but I think the AMD can still do fine. I can't get a better motherboard than that, it was the only option.

5 years ago AMD was better than intel.....but not anymore. I understand that u are on a budget but intel is far and away a better processor (at least for the time being).

AMD cpu is better than the Intel Pentium 4 but since the introduction of the Intel Dual Core, it's a different story. The Dual Core just destroy the best AMD cpu regardless of clock speed, but if you have a tight budget and don't care much about performance then stay with AMD. The AMD cpu can't touch the Intel dual core but it will be fine for normal use. |

Hey, you DS tech dudes, what would the performance difference be for the same price if he went with an Intel set up? Without busting his baseline budget?
I mean isn't this a pretty good rig? It might not run Crysis, but it would run CS Source and Halflife games. Not Hellgate but Call of Duty 4? I mean what kind of games with what kind of performance? I am really curious! Hey, don't let anybody get you down man, budget is important! Congratulations on making the most out of your paycheck! PC gaming is expensive. You should rap with the DS techs by phone and let them kick around some configs with you. But if you are happy with your set up go for it! |

Ya, I thought this rig was looking pretty good. =/ I don't know though, $200 more just for an intel quad core or duo... Seems like a lot.

If you drop that gaming mouse and keyboard, you have the $$$ for an E6750. |

clinton, where do you live? (I only ask because of tax)
also, remember that if you save a build, a day later you will get a 5% discount... that gives you a little breathing room on tax/shipping or getting a little more added to your rig.. I looked at sundowners build and for that price you cant go wrong. |

How about this built here :
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=90036 It cost around $1895, well below your budget and it has an Intel Quad core along with the Nvidia 680i motherboard. I substitute the Logitech bluetooth keyboard/mouse ( you don't want bluetooth anyway, usb works fine with less problems) with the MS keyboard/mouse. I would take out the keyboard/mouse combo since you can get them later if need to. DS doesn't offer as many choices as a retail store. |

Ok, what's better the quad @ 2.4Ghz or the Duo @3.0 Ghz, which is $3 less than the quad.

The 3.0 duo will be at little faster than the 2.4 quad. But as more and more games and apps starting taking advantage of multi core processors you will kick yourself down the road for not getting the 2.4 quad. As the price is almost the same go with the quad core and u wont regret it in the future. If u are concerned about speed chose the 680i A1 revision motherboard and stage 3 cooling with twister over clock and DSO should be able to over clock the quad processor to 3.0 . Hope that helps.

There are valid arguments on both sides of this question. I picked the E6850 to get better performance today. I'll worry about tomorrow when it gets here.... CPUs are pretty easy to replace.
You might be able to overclock a Q6600 up to 3 MHz, but I run the E6850 at 3.6 MHz. The Q6600 can't win that race.
Having said that, the only difference that I've detected between running at 3.0 and 3.6 MHz is the 20% increase in the benchmark results. I don't see any difference in gaming and certainly not in day to day applications. Well, I guess it might crank through MP3 and video encoding noticably faster....
Just like someday Vista will be the obvious OS choice, someday a Quad will be the obvious choice. Today, it's not so clear.

I think this will be the build I get:
Copy of Specifications:
Case: Digital Storm Twister PRO (Black Anodized Aluminum Finish) Power Supply: 600W Thermaltake (SLI Compatible) (Silent PurePower Edition) Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz (1066MHz FSB) (8MB Cache) Motherboard: nVidia 680i LT Core 2 Quad (By: eVGA) (nForce 680i SLI) Memory: 2GB DDR2 Corsair at 800MHz XMS2 (Dual Channel) (Extreme-Performance) Floppy / Media: - No Thanks Hard Drive 1: 320GB (Western Digital / Seagate) (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Hard Drive 2: - No Thanks Raid Option: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Network Card: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Modem: - No Thanks Video Card: nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 320MB (By: eVGA / Asus) (PCI-Express) TV Tuner: - No Thanks Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy SE (Up to 7.1 Channel) Physics Card: - No Thanks Cooling: Air Cooled Stage 3 (Silent Artic Cooling (TwisterBoost Overclocked) Case Lighting: Blizzard Internal Lighting (Blue Edition) (Cold Cathode Tubes) Round Cables: - No Thanks User Manual: Personalized Platinum Digital Storm Binder (Includes Paperwork/Benchmarks/CDs/Manuals) Windows OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home (Includes Service Pack 2) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks my keyboard comes with a mouse Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty Support: Lifetime Toll-Free Platinum Care Technical Support That's going to be pushing it as far as the budget goes after tax is added.

Wait a few more days for the 8800GT 512 to be added to the choices, it should lower your cost and give you much better power.

The 8800 GTS 320 and 8800 GT have the same price... some retailers will even sell the GT higher because of its awesome performance.

Ya, I guess I'll wait a couple of days. What would be more beneficial the corsair 620watt power supply or the A1 motherboard? I have a little extra to spend.

That should be relatively the same price with the new 8800GT instead of the GTS.
Still leaves you $200 for keyboard/mouse.
And the A1 would be the better choice so you can get a higher overclock, the PSU wouldn't be an issue unless you wanted to add a 2nd card.
