Greetings to All ,
I have been checking stats and prices for a month now and am Tired ! I HAD been considering Cyberpower site 'till I checked BBB ---Forget it ! Also checked Falcon Northwest ( my Previous purchase 3 yrs ago) , they have changed ... things look "old". Anyway seriously considering DS and have made tentative config. I Mostly play WoW and may even go back to EQ2 again. Just want something that'll allow me to do Wintergrasp and actually stay in Dalaran with a decent framerate. Wife uses my Falcon NW while I am sitiing on a 9 yr old homebuilt that was top of the line --9 YRS ago .

Digital Storm Saved Config 310978‏

Not sure if EQ supports SLI I know WoW does not so waste to me.Would not mind trying a good First Person Shooter if this config would handle it but no clue what to try .
Current Resolution in WoW options is 1600x900 (wide) -down from 1600x1050 (wide) also almost all options either off or lowest including vsync because I could not move in Dalaran (5-8 FPS) !!
One more thing --what BRAND cards are used ? Had way too much grief with BFG i.e. )

thanks for reply DST4ME but as I said I have no real use for SLI at this time and think the 4870x2 ATI would perforn just as well as your suggested GTX275 for my purpose (WoW and Maybe EQ2 again). The other change is Mainboard -- I have always had Asus and have had zero issues with them ) I am not completely up to date on the latest and greatest but have had computers since the days of the Commodore VIC 20 ( quit laughing :)) and tend to go with what has always worked except for the change to ATI ( almost all previous Vid cards were NVidia.
Thanks again for reply though )

Ashenra if you have no use for sli then why are you using crossfire? that the same thing.

and a 275 would kill a 4870x2 cause wow does not support crossfire either.

also where did I suggest sli?

you will have a much better experience with evga these days then you will asus.

with all due respect you say you are not upto date on hardware and when I give the upto date info you dismiss it, its a big confusing for me, as I'm just sharing the facts here, I'm just trying to help

Do you plan on playing Diablo 3 when it comes out? StarCraft 2? those MAY support SLI (Diablo is like 2-3 years away tho).  I would suggest 2x275 so that you can have the SLI ability's with the ability to disable it when needed. the 4870x2 doesn't allow you to disable the other core.

Many first person shooters will use SLI, and so if you plan on trying one out, that is your better bet.  I have a 4870x2 in my system and all i did was turn off Vsync and i got 45-60 FPS in Dal, 250-320 everywhere else.

The EVGA X58 LE and Regular, are both just as good as the ASUS one.

That said DST is really trying to get you the best bang for your buck.

hmmmm --- ok I get it . BTW didn't realize my answer sounded like "dismissal" all I was doing was sharing my train of thought ---which is now derailed.
I appreciate the "bang for the buck " as anyone would --so thx again . Just looking for opinions didn't realize disagreeing would cause bad Karma---sorry.
Turn off SLI ?? Was not aware this was even possible (slaps self). If thats the case would you then recommend for future games I get 2x gtx 275 ? Would I be able to still disable SLI for WoW ? I do not want to "cheap out" as my wife would say so if this is viable and still stay below $2500 plz let me know. Also did more research and find the single 275 is probably as good as the 4870x2 --reviews are hard to get conclusive evidence.Would the 2 x 275 systen require any other changes ?
Hopefully DST4ME (13000 posts???!) will ad his expertise here .

For the record, the 4870x2 is one card with 2 GPU's that are crossfired together to save space. So, what happens in non-crossfire games is that only one GPU is used, leaving you with one 4870.. which is easily crushed by 1 275. At least that's my understanding of it all. If a game doesn't support SLI or crossfire, they'll just ignore the other card(s) and use the primary card. However, SLI or crossfire may matter for WoW or EQ in the future since they can update their software to support them if they really want to. Best to leave the option open on your end so you aren't caught off guard down the road.

didn't cause bad karma or anything I'm just saying, your 4870x2 is in crossfire (same as sli) and for games like wow you will need to disalbe crossfire or sli, and yes it is possible to turn them off, for sli you just go to nvidia control panel and disable sli.

now having said that, I recommended 1 x 275, cause for your resolution 1600 x 1200, single 275 will give you 60fps in almost all the games, so you are not even going sli, sli would be 2 x 275.

now in games that don't support sli/crossfire, a single 275 would blow away a 4870x2 or a 295 gtx.

so in short if you go with my config you get all the gpu power you need for 1600 x 1200, and price after discount is $1946, now my config has a 750w psu, which will let you add another 275 should you need to in the future.

let me know if you have any questions
