Hello,
I asked this forum for feeedback on my build a few months ago and was gonna get the Dell Ultrasharp 30 and wait until later this year to get the new chipset to run 3x Sli. However, I probably will run 2 24-inch monitors at 1920x1200 instead because I really don't want to wait that long anymore, so with that in mind, would the following build suffice? I would appreciate any feedback.
I will run WoW, Rift, Diablo 3, and Skyrim on ultra settings:

change psu to 1000w corsair
change ssd to 120GB intel 320 unless you need the 160GB, in which case forget what I just said. if you like change os to pro so that in the future you don't need to worry about the 16GB ram limit, for $30 IMHO its worth it, but its upto you of course. the x79 is gonna be here in oct, you sure you don't want to wait? I'm sure it will cost higher tho, it is gonna be teh highend platform. |

Thanks DST4ME,
Here is the updated build. Do you think this system can run Dell Ultrasharp 30 in 2560x1600 with games like Rift, Wow, Diablo 3, and Skyrim in Ultra settings? WoW yes. Diablo 3, probably, since it's Blizzard and they always make easy requirement engines. Rift, possibly but not sure.
Skyrim, I'm not sure. It's lead sku is the console, so it's just a port to the PC. However, it still looks great, and if you ever mod it, at that resolution, I think 1.2 gb card might hold you back. Now that is on ultra settings. The system you built will play WoW on ultra and Diable 3 on ultra (pretty positive about this) and at least Very High for Skyrim. |

Ya form most, some of the games will not utilize sli, but you should be good, why not go with 6970 cf, that will do better.

DST4ME and Angilis,
So if I were to substitute the 6970 cf with 580 GTX 3GB sli, would that breeze through the 2560x1600 resolutions at all settings, max AA? Is the only reason we don't recommend 580 GTX 3GB because it is expensive and you get less bang for the buck compared to say 6970 cf or 570 SLI? Thanks, Benson |

6970cf would breeze through those games you wanted easily, they are both 2gb as well. Sli 580 GTX 3gb...it will own that resolution haha, and for a years to come I'd imagine.
The 3gb versions, you will start seeing your bang for you buck with games like Witcher 2 or Metro with that resolution. Also, with 5760 resolution off tri monitor, they perform very very well, even with AA. Edited by Anglis - 26 Jun 2011 at 11:53pm |

I don't think you will see a difference between 6970 cf and sli 580 3GB, at 2560 x 1600 perhaps in couple of years, but by that time if you can, I would recommend gpu upgrade, unless the current setup was enough.
if there was a 580 2GB version also, I would recommend the cheaper 2GB version, IMHO thats all you need at that res. the extra vram helps with aa settings, if the aa settings are going to be low, sli 570 is all you need. Now if you plan on keeping gpus in there for more then 3 years, then perhaps as anglis said, the 3GB version for that res is the way to go. Edited by DST4ME - 27 Jun 2011 at 1:14am |

Ordered. I wanted to wait for the new chipset but I need a desktop now. Was interested in ODE 3 but the power supply was little low for future upgrade so I purchased the configuration that DST4ME recommended for me a while back.
Thanks for DST4ME, Angilis, Alex and others for all your help. Big thanks to Alex and DS for allowing dissenting opinions in their forum so that I can hear all arguments and make the right decision for me, and DST4ME you really help a lot of people you should be paid a commission! lol Let the torture begin right? ![]() |

DST: This build has the i7-2600k oc to 4.5 to 4.8 ghz. It also has the A70 air cooler. So you are ok with the A70 at this oc? I have seen you recommend the A70 in several builds and I don't recall you recommending one of the water coolers. Is there a reason other than price?

The a70 and noctua are great air cooler and beat the LC system in level 1 and 2, that is why they are recommended, not the price. Also lc is never needed for these kinds of oc.
for better performance you need stage 4 lc and higher. the 2600k oces much better then previous processors, so at 4.7GHz you have good temps and good vcore. |

My pleasure and good luck
Members need to remember that when it comes to LC its all about rad's performance, rad's size, fans on the rad, water block. If those components are not one of the top performers, then the lc system will get beat by good air coolers like noctua and a70. Edited by DST4ME - 02 Jul 2011 at 4:27pm |
