Hello again DSers,
How does this look? Any comments, questions or suggestions would be appreciated. Generally using this to play WoW at 1900x1200 with all settings maxed, storing my iTunes library, web surfing, being able to create DVD's from my mini dvd camcorder and play any other game I want. No real need to overclock. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/doneconfig.asp?id=227368 Ticket Number: 227368 Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 940 2.93GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1866MHz OCZ Platinum Edition (Extreme-Performance) Power Supply: 1000W PC Power & Cooling (Turbo-Cool Edition) (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Card Reader: Internal Digital Media Card Reader (Black) Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 120GB Solid State (By: OCZ) (Ultimate Lightning Speed) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: Blu-Ray Player & DVD Reader (Play Blu-Ray & Read DVD Media) Optical Drive 2: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 1.792GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion (PCI-Express Slot Based) (Recommended) Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Cooler Master V8 (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: LCD Temperature Display & Fan Controller (Requires Chassis Airflow Upgrade) Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my processor Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: Yes, Overclock memory frequency (Includes Memory Fan Kit Installed) Tweak Windows: Yes, Disable and tweak all of the non-crucial services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks Warranty: 5 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty (Highly Recommended) |

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback.
1. I think I want to try the solid state HD. Not having to defrag is appealing. And loading WoW faster would be another plus. 2. If I'm gonna go for liquid cooling and OC, then I want a better CPU than the 2.66 GHz. My current desktop has a AMD FX-62 and would want the best mid-range I can get. Going from dual to quad will be a big step for me. And If you are OC'n the CPU and Memory, why not the video card as well? 3. I know nothing of Vista. What's the difference beteween Home 64 and Ultimate 64? I know I preferred XP Pro to Home. 4. Same deal with Sound Cards. I have only ever had Creative. |

1. ok few things, first off the current ssd is not as fast as the one intel put out, the one you have picked is not that much faster then a veloci, so I would recommend to go with veloci, but if you prefer ssd then you got to go with what you like.
2. ocing the ram was a mistake on my part, only thing oc should be cpu, sorry about that. you don't need to oc the gpu, its perfect as it is, very powerfull, but if you ever want to oc it, let us know and its is very easy to do unlike the cpu. 3. not much difference you want premium, its not the same as xp pro and xp home, you can see the difference here 4. our sound guru recommends the asus xonar |

I'll post another build in the near future when I get my money. Just looking for some sound advice at the moment.
I will be comparing shopping on Newegg and building it myself as well. I would most likely only get a system built if I go the water cooling route. I'm an Electronics Technician by trade, so I'm no stranger to working on gear. And I run a 2M shop, so I have facilities and ESD protection available. With the HAF, what would be the benefit of going Water vs stock Air? I know if you overclock, yeah. But I have never OC'd any of my systems. I know my current desktop is kind of noisy when my Asus GeForce 7900 GTX spins up. |

well if you don't OC there is a huge difference in speed.
even if you get a 695 stock, a 920 oced to 3.8GHz will be much faster. if you don't OC, cooling is no matter at all, a HAF will handle all the cooling you need with no OC. I can't be bothered with building PCs anymore, or change my own breaks on my car, I rather pay for it and sit back and relax these days. |
