My budget is about $2500. I don't mind spending money on relatively cutting edge equipment, because that just means I'll get to use the current build longer. First question I have is about overclocking. Will overclocking really make a noticable difference when I use the computer? Also, while I know the MB makes a difference, and I guess I could take time to research it, I'm lazy. :-) Should I choose a different MB? Here's my current build: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Dual SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 3GB DDR3 1333MHz Corsair Dominator DHX (High-Performance) Power Supply: 650W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 320GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Optical Drive 2: DVD-ROM/CD-ROM (DVD Reader 16x / CD Reader 40x) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 1GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Cooler Master V8 (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Green) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my processor Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (Includes Service Pack 3) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty Thanks, Sean. |

I understand having only 3GB with XP, but even then, its unlikely you'll be able to use all 3GB (probably 2.75). At this point, Vista 64 is stable enough where its probably a better option. If you do switch OS's, you might want to consider 6GB DDR3 instead of just 3GB.
And from what i've read, the mobo is ok, although I need to do more research in that area myself.

Overclocking is great, Its just a nice way of squeezing every last bit of performance out of your comp.
Try this build, Its about $2,639.00 after the buy it now promotion.
I know its alittle over your budget, but this setup would smoke your old one.

I'd go with the V8 cooler cpu cooler... It would ad 50 bucks ontop of the other price, but its well worth it.

My config number is 230616. Probably won't try to go higher than 1920x1200. After some reading, I'm thinking that upgrading to the GTX 295 might be worth the money.
As for OS -- I'm sticking with XP Pro. I *don't* want Vista. Sean. |
