So I've been lurking a while, and scouring the internet trying to find a decent gaming rig that doesn't have to be breathtaking, but still handle everything out there pretty reasonably.
You guys tend to throw around configurations for some wild $2500 rigs, but there's no way a poor soul like me is spending any more than 1200-ish just to play some Starcraft 2, and murder some innocent people in Fallout or TOR. So here is my proposed build. Critique, make suggestions, insult me, all is fair game. In the very likely event that I buy a cheaper rig, I plan on reviewing it on these forums so people like me can find out what the cheapest DS has to offer can do. Chassis: Cooler master elite 430 CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 Motherboard: ASUS M4A785T-M/CSM Memory: 4GB DDR3 1600MHz Power Supply: 750W Digital Storm Certified Hard Drive: 500GB Western Digital Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x/ CD-Writer 48x) GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5850 Cooling: Coolermaster V6 single 120mm fan performance cooler Overclock: Stage 1 All for the grand total of $1268, and this is pretty much as high as I'm able to go. |

If i were you i would definately go with a intel vs amd. I have experiance with the Amd Athlon x2 and it just plain sucks. I read tons of articles saying its just as good as intel but the truth is its not. I can't put flash in fullscreen without getting about 5 fps. my cpu is always maxed out. But also the Phenom II isn't the athlon so I don't really know if its better but I have had much better experiences with intel then amd.
Here is a build that will bring you to $1309 it has a intel i5 and a 1tb hd because its only $40 more you can get rid of it if you want to be closer to your $1268. i lowered the psu to 500W and I don't know if that would be enough but I figured it might. I'm no expert here and have learned most of what I know from people on the forums so anyone else correct me if i'm wrong on anything. But here is what I would get if I were you. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=433692 |

I did checked out the Budget build from the guide. I though I would entertain the idea of an AMD rig. A buddy of mine built his own computer a few years ago and went the AMD/ATI rout and its still kicking.
I might just go ahead and steal your build though. |

that was my point though, still an advantage, not a killer one, but why settle for less? especially because you dont really save all that much with AMD and with a noctua cooler on the i5 750 should easily get to at least 3.6 ghz. from what i read, there is not a lot of overclocking room with the AMD 965, which means that margin would get a lot bigger with a DSO overclock
