Hi, to be up front I`m looking to buy a computer from either DS or Velocity Micro. Both companies sound great and IMO have a great rep. I do like DS better because I think you guys have really great customer service. Plus both of you offer pretty much the same thing. Now your computers do have some better options meaning for the price range im looking for at $1600 I can get a nice rig that has a 640mb 8800 and VM only gives me a 320mb 8800.
Well the question I have is that awhile ago I wrote about me living in Japan and seeing if you could and how much more would it cost to send it here. Well the response was I would have to buy the crate $200 and then another $200 for insurance. That`s where it becomes hard (money wise). I understand that I would need to buy the crate because of the shipping conditions (and I think it should be my choice to buy the crate or not) but the extra insurance I don`t.
Now when I say I live in Japan means that I work on a Marine base But not in the Marines. So I have a FPO AP address. To tell you the truth that is like me living in California (as far as shipping and mailing things goes). So why again do I need the extra insurance?
Also if this is the only reason why I won`t go with DS (is because the added cost of both crate and the extra insurance is there a way we can get around this? This is to me not reall important.
I really would like to go with DS but VM doesn`t charge extra for there shipping.
thanks for your help

I dont work here; but having an online business myself; i personally think the crate is a good idea for the shipping overseas; although you are acting as if shipping wise it is like going to calif. It in actuality is not going to Calif. it is going overseas; and have you ever seen how mail is treated in the warehouses; I have; and I personally would not feel safe having a computer shipped but in a crate; they throw those boxes around like it was nothing; even if you put fragile on the package. So I understand why your asking these ?'s; but is it Fair for DS to send this package to you; only to get crushed and thrown around; now if it gets too you damaged who do you want to be responsible; well it should be you cause you said no crate; no insurance; DMS is trying to protect themselves as well as protect you; and I dont blame them. Maybe you should Ask velocity what will happen if your package arrives damaged; who is responsible then; and dont let them tell you the shipping co. because as many of us know; they may only cover undre 100; without additional insurance. So you should check all of this beforehand.

Actually Brian, the extra $200 covers not just the insurance but the massive shipping fee that we get billed not. That also includes the oversize limits. The crate itself is $200, but, the extra shipping fees add another $200 to it. You don't need the crate, it can save your $400. We just offer this option because we want to ensure our customers are happy in the end. We don't want to hear that you spent a nice amount of money on your dream machine, wait for it to be built, shipped, and then you receive it with damages. Especially if you are overseas.
We tend to think outside the box. Don't just think about the product when it is here, think about it for it's entire lifespan. From us to the customer, and the customer using it for years on end.

Go Digital Storm !! I have a Velocity Micro and received my new Digital Storm rig yesterday.
Velocity Micro good but no comparison ..
The Digital Storm computer is built like a sherman tank, cleanest wiring job I've seen, extra brackets for components.
I might have bitched a bit reguarding the delay on receiving it but I can say it was worth the weight.
Also, the foam packing and the box it came in could have been parachuted to me. Shows extra "care" in keeping those ram sticks intact.
Well done Digital Storm!
