Hello everyone. I am thinking about purchasing the prebuilt Intel i7 920 + GTX 285 and I had a couple of questions. I have spent many a night going over this configuration on several different sites. While others were cheaper, I am considering paying upwards of 500+ on this system due to the customer sevice ratings and warrantied overclocking provided by DS. I am banking on this system breaking the 4 year mark with minimal upgrades. I didn't do my due diligence on researching my last major PC purchase 3 years ago and within a few months I was upgrading the GPU followed by the RAM and then a new PSU. This time I want to make sure I'm not going to go through that mess again. My querstions are: I have a 750W PC P&C I am currently using that is 2 years old. Should I switch out the Corsair 750W with it? I know the PC P&C has a higher effeciency rating than the Corsair. Would the age cause you to think twice? I am running a 22" LCD at 1680X1050. Would this card be beafy enough to play pretty much everything at max? I've read a bunch of different reviews and benchmarks on this card and I know it is currently the best single GPU solution out there. I'm just wondering if it's enough at this rez. I play a lot of single-player RPGs (Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Witcher, etc.) and FPSes (Crysis, Crysis WH, STALKER, etc.). Any feedback would be appreciated... issues1975 |

can you post the ticket number for your config? for those games I would advise you to go with a 295 gtx instead.

Thanks for the response. Ticket number? I'm not sure what you mean. The one I'm contemplating is the prebuilt 920 i7 (Oc'd to 3.33) + GTX285 in the Antec 900 case. The SKU ID is 119525 while the item name is Digital Storm Desktop 109265. That's too bad about the GPU. The price for the 295 with a configured system is beyond what I am willing to spend. The only way to get a system with that card would be to go with a cheaper company. I guess the PSU question still stands. Would the age of the PC P&C discourage you (or anyone else) from using it in a new build? EDIT: Do you or anyone else really see the 295 as being necessary to play those kinds of games at max or very close to it? Edited by issues1975 - 07 Mar 2009 at 1:38pm |

well first of all let me point-out to you that the other places that you see what we think is the same system but for cheaper is not, the reason they are cheaper is because they cut corners or use refurbished parts, one of our members yesterday posted about reading on the forum of one of those cheaper places that for example the person ordered their system with the HAF case with comes with 3 big 230mm fans, but when he got his system, his case was bare-bone with no fans, things like that are important to your cooling, on paper both systems look the same but if you put them together, you will see they are not.
as for your questions, yoru resolution of 1680X1050 need a good card, however your budget is limiting us so we go with what we can, I like to recommend system that you can spend a little over time and keep them powerfull. here you go Ticket# 183784 --- Price: $2108 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $2008 Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: CLEARANCE HOT SELLER: 3GB DDR3 1333MHz Corsair XMS3 Power Supply: 1000W Silverstone OP1000-E (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (320GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 896MB (216 Cores) (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Cooler Master GeminII S (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Red) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty future upgrades for this would be 3GB more ram another 260+ GPU (the "+" sign signifies its a core 216 version of this card, which is the most powerful version of the card) this system can handle 5 HDDs, 6 optical drives, 3 x 260+ or 3 x 285 GTX or 2 x 295 GTX. so as you can see its very upgradeable, with 3 x 260+ or 3 x 285 GTX or 2 x 295 GTX you can run games at highest settings in resolution of 2560 x 1600, so this PC can be made into a huge monster if you wanted to. You couldn't play Crysis at max everything with the 285 because even the 295 you need to turn some things down just a little. Other than that you should be able to play those games at close to max at least. I play those other games at max with my 295. I am also speaking of resolutions of 1920 x 1200. That's what I play at.

We are looking into upgrading the power supply to a 1000W on the high-end pre-builds.
