Topic: Power Supply HELP!Posted: 21 Nov 2008 at 1:56pm |

I just bought a 9800 GX2 1GB card that requires 620W. I have a silverstone ST56F 560 W power supply.
I want to buy this power supply (750W corsair 750tx) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006&Tpk=750tx
The only problem is, my NEW card needs a 6 pin and 8 pin power (both at same time).
Does this power supply support the 9800 GX2? Or do the adapters come in the PNY 9800 GX2 box?
Am i getting the right power supply? Will this setup work?
Thanks a million in advance,
Joe

harleyman is incorrect.
20+4 works because it is 24 pin -_- it means you can use it as a 24 pin connector or disconnect the 4 extra pins to connect to a 20 pin mobo whereas ones that list it as 24 pin means its a 24 pin where you can't disconnect pins to make it connect to mobos with a 20 pin connector. skyR is correct, in a 20 + 4 setup, the 4 pin is optional thus you can do 20 or 24

Make sure you system was unpluged for more then a few minutes, make sure you ground yourself before you touch the pc parts.

Actually by any chance there's a quicker method to that? Turn off the PSU unplug etc etc. Then try turning it on. It'll absorb the rest of what's leftover and nothing will be left right?

I installed the power supply neatly and everything works 100%!!! I made sure to leave 2 PCI-E 6+2 wires available for the 9800 GX2 mammoth that comes tomorrow. So far so good, thanks for the help to this point. Tomorrow is the easy part.

Power supply and 9800 GX2 installed. All working 100%!!! This PSU is rock solid. Buy it, its dirt cheap and its stable, quiet, and very adaptable to anything you throw at it!!
