My Bolt 2 suddenly powered off today and so far won't come back on. I'm unsure if it was due to overheating. Inside there's a rectangular unit with two fans and behind them a radiator, this looks very dusty, I've tried with a blower but it doesn't help.
If it did overheat is there a delay before it comes back on and how long is it? Might it help to properly clean that radiator and how do I get it out? Any other suggestions what might be wrong? Thanks Ian |

Hi. If they haven't been cleaned since you got it it, probably. There is a safety thermal shutdown but it will not reboot after cooling down. Before doing anything, touch the case to ground all together so no static elec. fries anything. Turn psu off, open up and clean rads. I use a small vac that blows or vacuums depending on where the hose is placed. Once clean, start again and hopefully that was all there was to it. Otherwise if it won't start at all, the psu died. Good luck. PS: you can download CPUID HWMonitor to keep track of temps and other info on your system. Handy to have.

Hi and thanks for your reply Hoserator,
Sorry but I don't see how to get at the radiator, what exactly do I "open"? The side nearest the fans is quite dirty but hard to get at, do I need to unscrew and remove the fans to get at it? I have a 'blowing cleaner' and I've tried blowing thru the fan blades and thru the back of the radiator but it doesn't shift the dirt. I feel uncertain that this dirt is causing the problem, if it was just that my guess is that something would happen when I press the power-on button, the fans or something would try to start at least but they don't, nothing visible or audible happens. As to it being the psu, there is some power to the computer, there is a red light near the back-edge of the case top that's lit and the power-on button is lit. Would these be on if the psu was dead? Sorry, I was away for the weekend. There is a way to test the psu. Turn psu off. You must disconnect the 24-pin plug from the mobo and insert a wire to connect the green to adjacent black wire. Turn psu on. The psu fan should turn on. If not, it is dead. You can also find a "PC Power Supply Tester" in any pc store (Amazon, Newegg...) That will test other psu outputs. |
