I got my DS rig and look forward to setting it up next week, meanwhile I was wondering if anyone here might be able to spare me a bit of head-scratching re. the following issues:

-  Do PhysX drivers need to be installed in order for the Nvidia card to be PhysX-capable, or is this done by DS in the building/testing process?

-  I believe Vista is fussy about admin setting, especially when it comes to updating and patching games.  I'd love to know exactly how to set up the systems admin privileges on first use to avoid future frustration.  I have no need to secure my PC against unauthorized use beyond setting a password in Vista.

-  I have a bit of an enforced delay here.  Can anyone recommend other prep work I could be doing in the meantime, like downloading drivers, etc?

Thanks, as always.

Thanks!  I got Mirror's Edge just to test out the PhysX; are you saying I should uninstall the driver and never use this?  I don't mind, really, if it's a pain in the butt.

if you uninstall physx drivers then you can't use the physx features, don't uninstall them unless you have to. they come installed on your PC.

in vista you need to disable uac, once you do that you should be fine but anytime you want to add something that gives you permission problems, just right click that file and choose "run as admin.." and then you will be fine.

Yes, I'm already very familiar with Vista, having had it on my laptop for about six months.  It runs all the mundane apps perfectly well and it is a relief to hear that it performs well with most games, too.
