I'm experiencing periodic extreme frame drops while playing Warcraft on my new DS (otherwise great!). I'll be zipping along at 100 plus frames, and suddenly will drop to 40 or lower, and experience a lag. I don't really lose casting ability, but the game seems to go in slow motion for a second. Then bumps back up, then down, etc.

My previous computer didn't do this, so I know it's not the internet connection. I have a gtx 285, latest drivers, core i7 975, 6 gigs of ram. I'm currently running Windows 7 RC 64, but I was experiencing the same issue on Vista 64 (hence why I upgraded to 7).

Nothing else running, Warcraft is fully updated, but no different than previously.

yea i built this system 5 years ago for 2400 bucks. really only need it to last till i order my new dso system when win 7 comes out. course three of us here are going to order at the same time.

sad part is my 12 year old system i made for everquest is still working. runs the internet just ok now but still runs and is good for ventrillo....never had a broken component on it yet.

this newer system has lost a video card. and the capacitor..yet if i'm gonna keep gaming till the parts comein  i'll still have to play on it.

That is really weird that WoW is lagging at random times. I have not seen any issues with it.

Make sure your addons are not causing any lag spikes, or are you in certain areas of the game where you hit sudden lag? Like lots of people around, etc.

Had the same problem on my old system where i had a 260 superclocked. I got SP1 for Vista and it went away.

i assume you experience this about every 10-15 seconds.  if that is the case its an issue with one of the processes, Svchost i think it is. When i got SP1 it stopped for me, (there is a post on it but i screwed up the name of the process.) With SP2 out now (sitting on my phone so i can install it when i get back from school) that may also address the issue.

WoW just has funky coding and alot of people seem to encounter thier own oddities. I run perfect 99% of the time...but as soon as I try to go through the wooded area of Dragonblight...my FPS goes to sh*t. Don't get me wrong, the game is still very playable but the frames stutter and slow, it's aggrivating.

Some zones, such as Dalaran, are always going to have reduced FPS no matter what type of computer you have, it's just par for the course. But the issue you describe seems odd, 40 FPS is still rather high and within the visible range of 'smooth FPS' and the human eye can barely see any extra FPS over 40... but you also describe a 'slow motion' effect for a moment and that's something all together different. I have seen something like this before.

My diagnosis, it's your internet. Either it's your hub, router or it's the signal going to your house. You can call your service provider and they 'should' be able to send someone out to test your inbound/outbound speeds.
