    Posted: 20 Jan 2009 at 12:03am

How or where can I go to find out if my processor is outdated or not? I have a DELL (sad but true) Dimension DIM 4700C Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.8 GHz 2.79 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM. That’s a run down of my computer. The RAM was upgraded by myself, but it just doesn't have the get up and go like it used to when I first got it. My video card seems slower and all that great stuff. I know I need to get a new one, but is the issue there, so if anyone can give me a few pointers that would be very awesome and you will become my new best friend (metaphorically speaking). Thanks and have a great day. Big%20smile Confused

I don't understand what you are asking? outdated how? I mean is it old technology? yes a few generations behind, but it can still run stuff.

if your PC is running slow, check out how many processes you got running in the background

Sorry bout the sig, it was a random thought (spur of the moment). Thanks for the ideas. I ran my factory disk cleanup, then defragged, then downloaded CCleaner, and then defragged again, and then turned off my computer. So hopefully all that will help it out a little more. Once again thanks for the assistance.

Well...when I open the windows task manager and do processes, it doesn't say anything for the background. Its just a llist of things, but all say 00 except for two of them which are cpu usage and idle.

At the bottom of the processes tab, it will say the total number of processes running, make sure the box is checked that says "show processes from all users"

To speed up PC don't depend merely on some hardware and software, it also involves the efforts that you put to maintain your PC

XP. I don't have a good feeling about Vista, don't think I will ever get it unless it's a dire need. As far as processes go there are 47.

nothing wrong with vista 64bit, its a great os IMO.

47 processes is not bad, will you do a scan with spysweeper once there click on free scan and then download and install spysweeper (without anti virus)

make its settings like this:

then do a custom scan and see if it picks up anything

24 adware/spyware? can I get a screenshot of your result window?

if they are all cookies then its no big deal but if they are files and apps then we need to clean those out, nothing slows down your PC more then malware.

They don't have to. Why? Turn them off?

please, the run in the background and slow your pc and also startup probably.

do you have CCleaner? if yes then please go to its "startup" section and disable those or give me a screenshot of the "starup" window in ccleaner and I can show you which to disable.

after that we have more stuff to do.

Ok, I may sound retarded or new or whatever, but please, if you can, remind me on how to take a screenshot. I forgot.

click cursor on ccleaner's window then press "Alt" and "PrtScr" (print screen)on your keyboard at the same time, then open Paint and paste inside paint.

save it as jpg or png.

you know how to upload it and post it here?
