With DS's recent discount on the intel extreme QX9770 processor this makes for a very tempting purchase. Although they are being phased out, the history and it's stats are remarkable.
With the introduction of the i7 line, the i7extreme 965 seems to be the QX9770's rival.
What's your thoughts on taking advantage of this older and so much cheaper price(only priced so low here at DS for now) and passing on the i7 processor.
Also take in account the new X58 family of motherboards, as compared to the newer 790i model digital PWN board.

One thing to keep in mind: If you purchase an i7 system, then you'll have a mobo that can be upgraded with new chips much easier in the future. You would have a more future-proof machine.

The 920 beats the qx9770.
by the time you config a qx9770 system I can show you an i7 system for less or the same that will beat it. the new system are not comparable with the old ones. the x58 handles triple channel memory, can do both sli or crossfire, can upgrade to future parts, owns the oc record. |

DST4ME is right, but, I have seen systems with the i7 and the QX9770. It's really interesting, and this will only apply here since the price of the OX9770 is so heavily discounted right now:
For the money you save building a high-end system with a QX9770 versus a high-end i7 for example, you can use that saved cash on a better video card setup which will beat the i7 system in game tests. This is only because of the lower price you would receive from a QX9770 system versus the i7.
However, the i7 is great and new, but, the QX9770 is a offer that is also just as good due to the low price we are selling it at because you can put that extra cash on a better video card setup.
Warm Regards,
Alex

Thanks Alex,DSt4all, and James
my final thoughts also. Ive placed my order and am feeling those old excited feelings that make me feel young again. It's nice and at a good time in my life. Two 285's will do the video and 4 gb's of 1800 memory for starts. Also for the first time I'm looking foward to using the on board sound. I've indulged in many sound cards prior ,really not knowing the reality of sound cards vs. onboard but I'm hoping that the older mo's sound was not as good as the new boards. I went with the EVGI digital pin motherboard. Also raid 0 on two 320 7200rpms saving cash and passing up two raptors. I'm waiting for viewsonic 20+ inch 3D montor and then it will be time to wash my eye glasses and clean my ears, fluff my seat cusion and then ? time will tell thanks to all of you ,it is part of my life wondering about good or bad decissions \, and I am thankful for all opinions. It makes me think and investigate harder. |

your looking at the system
as I described with the addition of a storage hard drive
.
as to the i7 discussion, intel slowly developed the quad core and stocking Numbers of different modles and with time they emproved and did some redesigning of the processor's.
I can only emagine that with i7 now 3 modles exist. emagine in time the amazing concept and workings of this new design, It is bound to change and other models will become avalable. Don't you think ? Myself with illness questioning my time I souly built my unit on the tried and true. and it was easy to go back just 4 months ago and could practicly afford the Quad 9550. So now the big boy with two new nvidia's 285's . It will be a improvment from my single nividia 880 gx.
You can see my doubt and unsolid conclusion is easing. really easing up.
also I trust my sales advisor ,always to a point, but sometimes you find a honest well informed ( I hate using the word salesperson) AHHHH who knows. the benchmarks? It's history?, I'd buy a new 2006 car that has great reveiws.
It sounds to me like I still trying to convince myself. I did want the new stuff out.
If you Question my comming computers abilities just instruct me on some tests and we all can see. maybe help others although the #'s of old extreme processors is becomming so limited .
Speed is great fun and pratical in many cases, but consistancy is more to me.
hopefully no more crashing while converting old VHS whith adio and visual enhancmemts as I've lived with through pinnacle 8,9,10,11,and 12.
OH NO i7 is the multitasker beating time tests rather overwhelmingly with many audio, video, and written converting and copying comparisons with prior quads.
Well i've almost allowed my weeknesses to upset my self and my brain is tired.
instead of rereading this now, I'll throw the dice and say good night and think about walking rex in the NYC icy cold night air.
If you've read this thanks , Gary , ps.Rex is my dog
