As I get closer to placing my order, I'm looking at every possible angle I can to squeeze more performance from my hardware selections while staying within budget. Since I already own a copy of Windows XP SP2 (hard drive died once on my current system so I bit the bullet and bought the retail box), I've considered the option to decline an OS installation and contact M$ to switch the license to the new system and install Windows myself.
I do have a couple of questions though.
1. When a system is ordered with an OS installed, there is a 72 hour test it goes through prior to shipping. What sort of testing is conducted on a system where the purchaser elects to provide their own software support?
2. If a twisterboost option is selected, is the this selection compatible with the option to provide for your own software support?
3. Aside from the absense of the OS disk in the folder provided with the system, are there any other differences I should be aware of in considering this option?
Thanks.

1. I definitely don't have any authority on the subject, as I don't work for Digital Storm, but I'd guess that they would install an OS, whichever one they use most around the office, probably Vista, run all of their tests, and then reformat the hard drive.
I'm not too sure about the other two, but I hope I was some help. Hopefully Alex or someone from Digital Storm will get to your questions soon. :) |

We test the computer system with a general, basic operating system. We run a generic batch of stress tests on the system. However, without knowing which OS will be installed, we won't be able to test your system to its full capabilities. TwisterBoost is done in the BIOS and is done with a Linux boot disk to stress the system.
You also wont receive a recovery image kit.
Personally I don't recommend you go without an OS, let us test and make sure everything works before it ships. That way, we can find incompatibility issues as well.

Fair enough Alex, thanks for the reply.
I was loathe to part with the 72 hour test on the final build with the OS and all drivers installed, and what you say about being able to ensure everything works as it should before shipping no doubt makes for less headaches on both ends.
