Topic: Purchasing an over clocked build... Posted: 25 Mar 2009 at 2:28am |
Hi Folks,
I hope this is the right section of the forum for my query!
Having browsed some builds by digital storm, I have found quite quickly the range of options when customising a build to over clock certain features such as the CPU and memory.
I guess my question is, if I buy a build from digital storm that has been customised/over clocked (and i do not tamper with these settings myself after purchase) are the parts still under any warranty? i.e., what happens if there are issues a few months down the line?
Regards,
Sam

No need to worry, Digital Storm warranty's even their overclocks that they do. So if your CPU gets fried (from the OC) just give them a call and they will fix you up.

The warranty is no problem, one thing to keep in mind if you are not comfortable doing an overclock on your own is that resetting the OC to default is pretty much the first step in troubleshooting any problem you have with your machine.
DS will walk you through it, but if the thought of doing that concerns you I would just run it at stock.

Yes, whatever overclock DS does when you buy a rig from them, it is covered under their warranty.
I was/am a total noob with oc'ing when I first looked to buying my system from DS. I wasn't going to bother with it. But after reading how DS does the oc with testing, etc. - and knowing it's covered under warranty - I went with it.
What really convinced me was seeing the OC results with the 920. Can't go wrong there IMO. There's some variance in each chip, but you can expect at least a 3.0 speed with a DS overclock. I got 3.3 and there have been higher results.
As for OCing RAM and GPU, I'm not going to mess with it - at least for now.
