Hey everyone

So before we start I will admit I didn't look at my board to see if it was 4 way sli compatible before i bought my second gtx 590. (enter ridicule here) I was having some stability issues with this setup and I have removed the second card. My question is is there a way i can shut down one of the gpu's on the second card and run a 3 way sli setup with these two cards?

the reason i would like 3 way sli is:
A) I bought the dam thing and id like to use it
B) I run two monitors and I've found it destroys my performance in games and when i had the second card in it kept up not to bad. ya know, despite the crashing lol

and ideas?

Short answer, no. Long answer, maybe but it would more then likely require physical modifications to the card that you don't want to mess with. The 590 is not recommended for various reasons and this is one of them. Both of those GPUs are tied together and one does not work with out the other.

If just one of the two chips on the card goes bad on it's own the entire card will stop working. Same thing goes for what you want to do, you can just disable one of the chips with out physically messing around with the card which you do not want to do.

The chips on those cards are so ridiculously under tuned and that's why the single card can't handle a two monitor set up. Two real 580's would work much better then the single 590. If you really want to go to a x3 SLI set up look into returning your second 590 and maybe selling your original 590 on some place like eBay. Then buy yourself x3 570's.
