I got my machine with two 8800 Ultra's in SLI.  I assume the ones DS gave me were the standard ones offered by evga with the 612mhz gpu clock speed.

I was on their site and see a bunch of cards that are "superclocked" and the black pearl version, etc which look to be more powerful.

Are these versions the exact same thing except they are overclocked?  I figure the black pearl version won't be good if you are on air because 655 clock will run pretty hot... most people say 650 is the max you should go assuming your GPU's fan speeds are at 100% I guess I could just OC mine to achieve similar results.

You can check which one you have by using GPU-Z.

The only differences between the SKUs are the clock speeds.

so basically if I decide to overclock my ultras to the same clock speeds it's the exact same thing as if I were to buy whichever pre-oc'ed card?  Obvious answer, but I mean the card itself has no differences and react the same way to the heat, etc?

Yes, the only difference between vanilla, Superclocked, KO, and SSC editions are the clock speeds.

Only reason why you buy higher clocked components is that they are guaranteed to run at the speed they are advertised for.
