Topic: Question about battery backupPosted: 17 Sep 2008 at 12:19am |

Hi everyone, well my $8500 super system was finally shipped and will be here friday. My question is I have the same battery back up they offer here the APC1300VA model. It says it is 780 watts but the power supply on my new system is 1200 watts can I still hook it up to this and will it work and if so for how long? It is a new battery back up still in the package but I really dont have any more money to buy anything else, I am allready over budget $8500 lol so I am hoping I can use it.

While your PSU may suport 1.2KW, your total load will be much less than that. So, it is safe to go with a 780W UPS.
Also, I own APC BR1500LCD unit. It's amazing and I highly recommend it. Costs around $200 but is worth every penny. Edited by david5182 - 17 Sep 2008 at 12:33am |

UPSes have other useful functions besides battery power. For example: Automatic Voltage Regulation and quality surge protection.

All the above is dandy but i couldnt find one replaceable battery for any of them.
Very bad investment if so.

Lets see:
DSO offers 3 surge protectors from APC. I was only checking APC1300va one, according to a quick search for battery replacement for it on: http://www.apc.com/tools/upgrade_selector/?CFID=8979577&CFTOKEN=12682876 doesnt come up with any results. Same goes for APC1500va, which DSO doesnt offer, but one id get if it had an option to replace its battery.
[edit] I did a quick search through APC and found in both UPSs 1300/1500 manuals that you *have the ability* to replace their batteries, but i cant seem to actually find a page where you can order them..
Thoughts?

I already did, this is one late post here, but its APC1300VA, same one DSO sells as a matter of fact?
Theres a more expensive one which goes by the name of APC1500VA.
Is that enough info for ya?
Much thanks.
[edit] Just to fail proof my post ill include two links to both UPS APC1500VA/APC1300VA below.

Yeah,.. no battery replacements for those two. The only point of all this is if a person (me) decides to sink 200$ for a UPS it better have a replaceable battery if it decided, at one point, to crap out. How long did you own your UPS Harleyman?
So ill be looking into a different brand or model, most likely different model as APC is a good brand w/ good track record.
No im never going to install google-anything on my PC. I dont even use google for my searching needs!
No im not trying to find faults in DSO's system, simply trying to find info if UPSs DSO offers are a good investment of money.

Theres one of them faults.
UPS you linked is the one i had my sights on, whats the model # on it? Obviously its not APC1500va, right? Right? Yeah, its BX1500LCD which doesnt have one (replacement battery). The only reason i need one that has a replaceable battery is so i dont have to sack 300$ after 2 or so years for a new one, isntead get a battery for 150$.
I found a good UPS, by the looks of it, APC SUA1500 which costs double of the other two. What kind of rig do you have hooked up to your UPS Harleyman? What kinda PSU (1000/1200W?) your rig has? And what size screen (widescreen?) are you running if its hooked up to your UPS.
APC SUA1500 500$ (expensive
And for CyberPower UPS, it has some nasty reviews behind it, obviously some of the people writing them might not know what the hell theyre talking about, but it appears it doesnt work w/ vista <any> 64 bit. Might have to do a quick search on software it comes with.
Do you have a UPS DST4ME? Brand/Name? Please! Edited by Nomak - 20 Sep 2008 at 10:08am |

-sighs- Uh huh sure. My end of looking around, I see plenty of satisfied customers who got it to work without a hitch with a Vista 64-bit setting.
Not to mention the main site even states 64-bit on Vista.... |

I dont know about your end of looking around, but i found a better ups for a gaming rig personally. Which could be located here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842102006 Now, the only problem w/ CyberPower according to all reviews accross the board for all of their products is their crappy customer service and slow response time to emails or calls. (And since youre on this site i hope customer service is of high importance to you) Might have to check BBB FDC and rippedoff + pissed customers for more indepth look before making a purchase.
Going to look around a bit more. Most UPS below 200$ seem to be of crappy quality and/or dont have replaceable batteries.. one or the other. Edited by Nomak - 20 Sep 2008 at 4:41pm |

Well true, but i havent checked all consumer reporting agencies yet, but i get the feeling youre right. Which bring me back to APC - fack!
PS: Worth noting this CyberPower has nothing to do with CyberPower PCs. Edited by Nomak - 20 Sep 2008 at 4:53pm |

Yeah cept' DSO dont make UPSs - perhaps we should give Alex a suggestion to look into this revenue. PS: But APC UPSs they sell are under their warranty, so if you go w/ those youre covered, still. Edited by Nomak - 20 Sep 2008 at 4:59pm |

-shrugs- So that 100 or 80+ entries of newegg either got lucky or are idiots in general? I don't mean to say that in any bad way, I ask that seriously. I'm sure there are times when 100+ customers who give a 4 or 5 out of 5 should be overlooked...........right?
"I dont know about your end of looking around, but i found a better ups for a gaming rig personally." That's a bit unnecessary, despite the fact that's just a different series (LCD and AVR series...one does spec higher than the other though) under the same brand. I was just giving out a brand for you to look out. I wasn't even aiming for "The ups that's meant for gaming!" I also only simply responded in regards to the 64-bit issue lol. I'm here to find out what's recommended too. Then again I just naturally find you intolerable ![]() Edited by Axel Daemon - 20 Sep 2008 at 5:06pm |

Intolerable doesn't mean I hate you lol. Though you don't seem to deny it either too lol. One thing I just wanna note lastly is... is that you Extraxi?
Anyways sorry for the off-topicness -carrys on- Edit: Funny though when I try to search up CyberPower, I keep getting the wave of hate for the PC version of this name lol. Edited by Axel Daemon - 20 Sep 2008 at 5:19pm |

Well CyberPower PCs have their share of the market, which is probably bigger than what CyberPower UPS could ever hope to attract, unfortunatly CyberPower PCs have been going downhill (I got my first gaming rig from them, which lasted me for years) in quality as of late and with two identical names its hard to find decent reviews of both companies, but not impossible.
Whos extraxi?!
And i dont hate anyone on the internets, but i do hate crappy UPS units, since a starting price for them is 150$ give or take a few cents.
